I was held back a bit by being a medical student as you don't graduate until you are 24.
I did live in in hospital accommodations during part of the course two years before graduation when I was 22 - 6 weeks in the ground floor of the nurses home at the Children's hospital while doing Paediatrics and 10 weeks in the staff quarters at QEH while doing Obstetrics.
I finally moved out of my family home, at age 23, when I married my first wife in January 1967, and we lived in a house her Uncle owned - he worked for the Department of Mines as a surveyor, and was only home about 3 months of the year. We looked after the block of flats he owned next door when he was away.
My first wife supported me through final year Medicine which she convinced me was viable because as a teacher she was earning more than my father.
We bought our own home in early 1969.
I didn't actually live alone until she and I parted in 1975 - I was 32 then.
