One other glaring thing of note was how much more comfortable and effective Petrenko and Thompson looked compared to when I saw them last season at their previous club. Get the feeling the same will be said of Porplyzia too.

Hopefully all other teams watch closely this game and realise Norwood shite gamestyle of backwards first and endless switching isn't worth two knobs of goat shite without real top line players finishing off!
Once stood up to man on man they simply aren't capable of all out attack, it was pathetic........ 11 goals to 0 deep into the 3rd quarter

It's won three consecutive premierships but it's an uneffective game style? (won't argue that it's not particularly attractive to watch)

We got out "Norwooded" by the Eagles yesterday, but I'm not sure a) how many other teams have the cattle to do it as well as the Eagles did and b) that we'll succumb that poorly to it again (freaking hope not). In the past 2 seasons we've been a far better side in the second half of the season, so hopefully that can happen again.

Well and truly pantsed yesterday, but Im not prepared to write us off on the back of one game.

This may come back to bite you. Every team has an off day. Centrals thrashed Norwood about this time last year too. It didn't do us any good.

I reckon Centrals copped a similar thumping from the Bays one season (Adelaide Oval) but when the business end of the season wheeled around it was never going to de-rail them.

Happy to be written off after one poor day. You beat us twice last year too but were nowhere to be seen when the real stuff started.
Premierships are all that matter, give me flags and "boring" football anyday over attractive footy and 5th placed finishes

Huh?

How do Boyd, Wundke, Borholm, Ainger, McGregor and Rakiwasa feel about their support?

The point is that Norwood are so predictable, won't change now, yet don't have the quality of a few seasons back ...... so are there for the taking!

8) Well I don't see those guys giving fingers back over the fence after razzing up from the cheap concrete seats

Haha .. Care factor!!

We've been there for the taking for the last 3 years according to different people, this year no different. Like every other club, if we're good enough we'll win it, and if we're not we're not, pretty simple.

But he's not a North player. He was a North player but now he is a Norwood player and in pretty good form for them too.

To say norwood don't have top line players in their team is ridiculous. We might have smashed them on Sunday but clearly Norwood are not an 80 side worse than us. Every team has their off-days (I wish ours wasn't in a GF against Centrals) so I would wait till later in the year before sticking a boot in !!

In the past few years the eagles' victories have been by slim margins whilst our losses have been heavy defeats. Consequently, our percentage has rarely been over about 53%. This has cost us at the end of the season when we have been fighting for spots amongst a logjam of teams. Now it sits at a healthy 61% which is great to see. Hopefully this season we can keep it at least above 55%.

Another thing which we have rarely seen over the past few years (even in our victories) are our midfielders getting up around the 30 possessions. On the weekend we had three players – Boyd, Martyn and Rowntree - up around the mark. All teams who are premiership contenders have at least one midfielder who consistently gets these high possession so it will be important that our main midfielders (Boyd and Rowntree) can maintain this throughout the season.

yep didn't have Petrenko against west team was totally different ,
Yep Porplyzia killed the Eagles the week before up forward .

Unlike Holden I'll say this the eagles game style worked well against Norwood . With the inclusion of Petrenko pace and a bit of guts and determination was added . Martyns recall also added much needed pace . And Shwarz must have read comments on this site regarding him as a league footballer cause he played like a champion . And a fit Boyd showed his worth.
Week before the West style game the eagles play fell into a large hole didnt work for four quarters .
While it worked against Norwood there will be weeks it doesnt work . that simple .
Centrals at Elizabeth next week its been 10 or more years since the Eagles won there , we will see if it works next week .

Conditions were also very difficult wind wise and the Eagles adapted better - local knowledge. Norwood couldn't convert outside of 30m. Conditions also didn't help the 5 contestants vying for the little car at half time. Peter Hudson (who played at this ground once) would have struggled to land a Sherrin into a car sunroof measuring about 10 square inches from 30 metres out. Just to make it easier the 7 foot Eagles mascot was standing the mark. That car was safe!
