My point was we should have been paying that gst all along. So it isn't an extra tax it is one they have not been collecting. So if there is a cost effective way for them to do that, it is something I support

Why would you hijack a same sex marriage protest and bang on about how marriage is for a man and woman only? Everyone one deserves the right to marriage FFS. If your against same sex marriage then go find a gun and go kill yourself.
The death penalty can never be excused as it allows a state a means by which it can pick and choose who is fit to live and who isnt

raise some coin? it is the government, it will cost money. how much will it cost them to get the $10 from me for that $100 item i bought?

and forgive my ignorance, but what is the mechanism they have now for collecting it that wasnt there before? storing it at customs till i pay the $10 somewhere? how much will these storage facilities cost? and how much is the (presumably) postal bill going to be to send out all these letters of demand to shoppers? how often will they just outright lose your goods after you have paid them the GST? and how many person hours will be devoted to sorting that out?

when it is big items, or big shipments, i can see the cost benefit, but for that Elsa outfit i got off ebay for by (nearly) 6 year old, i can only see it costing more and taking more time. way to go team australia.....

edited to add, if they really needed to raise coin that badly, remove tax free status for churches unless they can prove that the money went to a charitable cause. and by charitable cause i dont mean expanding their buildings or property, i mean that it went to clothing or food for the homeless etc. but it wont happen

Here's an idea, boycott ebay & buy from a local shop.

why would you do that when ebay is so much cheaper?

Even with an extra 10% added on to most online purchases, the local shops will still be dearer most of the time

37 million people use the infidelity website Ashley Maddison worldwide & some say gay marriage will ruin the sanctity of it. Go figure.

But thats my point. It wont be cost effective. It will cost more to collect than they get from it. they have just introduced it to keep the likes of gerry harvey happy, nothing more

I actually dont buy much online, and the things i plan on buying shortly just arent available here.

I just dont believe this should be introduced when it will hurt shoppers, and hurt the government as it isnt cost effective. All to keep their donors happy. Its ******* bullshit

Might not hurt the economy but will hurt the poor. Not that politicians give a shit about things like that. I can think of a number of better ways to raise revenue or increase savings like getting rid of their so called 'overseas study tours'.

Edit: On cue or charging taxpayers to attend other politicians weddings.

Embattled Speaker Bronwyn Bishop is being accused of using taxpayers money to attend former Liberal MP Sophie Mirabella's wedding, calling the trip official business.

The fresh allegations come after Ms Bishop was heavily criticised for using a taxpayer funded helicopter to travel from Melbourne to Geelong.

And 6 other MP's.

FFS when did that heavy lifting start again?

Heavy lifting started when Team Australia took over and delegated that task to its employers

An eloquent summation of the case for.
Also helps explain the relative silence from those opposed or indifferent, the lack of tolerance to a different view.

Tolerance for a different view? What about tolerance for two gay people wanting to marry!

Some don't believe in gay marriage Benny. They have a right to their opinions and to express them without being told to go and kill themselves. That's the tolerance I was referring to.

I'm accepting of others views until they start impacting on the rights and wellbeing of other people, and that's when it changes from an opinion to being selfish and pig headed.

Once again, equating tolerance for your opinion to tolerance for someone being able to marry someone is ridiculousness of the highest order.

Why do you think two other people shouldn't be able to marry?

Where did I say they shouldn't?
You've jumped to a conclusion after I mentioned tolerance was a two way street.
