Kind of my point really... Butter Chicken is a simple dish, it's the sauce that either makes it, or breaks it. If they can't do a decent butter chicken then move on. It's like an Italian joint, if the Spaghetti Bolognese is poor (really how can you **** that up) don't even bother with the rest of the menu.

Yeah but if they do a good butter chicken, but can't do a vindaloo then it's still not a good Indian joint :)

Saag gosht is one of my favourites. Lamb/goat and spinach.

Decent butter chicken is far from a simple dish.

Went to Carrick Hill for Mothers Day lunch on sunday. I'm not sure if they normally have a restaurant there or not but thought it was worthy of a review anyway...

Booked for 1.30pm with quite a few kids in tow, kids did not get their meals until 2.30pm!
To quell the hunger, they were offered burnt butter biscuits which were scoffed instantly.
No bread was offered so we asked for some...15 minutes later 8 x slices of white bread from a store packet was placed on our table, no butter.
Anyway when meals were finally brought out, the food was over cooked but quite flavoursome.
To top it off, when the bill came, they tried to add the cost of the bread to the bill...@ $1.00 per slice! Fair to say this was ahem negotiated out of the bill on principle.

Food: 6/10 if it wasn't overcooked, 8/10
Location: 10/10, if you have been here, the grounds and view are amazing
Staff: 8/10 to their credit they were trying their best on a busy day

Overall 7/10

Went to the Thai by 3 Monkeys with the family last night after rave reviews from a member of the family
I thought it was so - so compared to my favourite Thai restaurants
No heat in the dishes at all compared to the chilli-o-meter on the menu
$50 ph was also expensive for what we had

My mum and I went to Cafe Nova at Gawler for Mother's Day breakfast yesterday. We both got bacon & eggs me fried her scrambled and I also got a couple of little Italian sausages. Couldn't argue with the service it was good despite being very busy but the bacon, eggs and toast were all a bit bland. The Italian sausages were almost devoid of flavour too. OK, nothing special but I did enjoy the mug of cappucino very nice.

A few years back went to Gawler for a brekky, as you head north on the main drag, a joint on the left hand-side was quite full.
Poor service, in fact none at all. It was set up as if there were 2 rooms
Place across the road.
A lot more space between tables and the service was superb and the food was quite nice.

Can't remember either name but the locals may know...

When I worked in Gawler Java Hut was the go to place for lunch. I used to get some massive omelet thing, and coz it didn't have meat in it, I added bacon and a beef patty on top. It cost me about $22 a pop, but was worth it.

Parade Thai - I still go there before Norwood games seeing Banger decided we are the only football supporters in the world that doesn't need a BBQ
Star of Siam
I used to love Lanna Thai but it shut down - the Larp was magnificent
I asked Mrs 041 last night what she thought about 3 Monkeys whilst eating her homemade meatballs in chilli basil tomato sauce by candlelight
"I make better Thai food" That not arrogance at all seeing she's a magic chef and taken Thai lessons including in Thailand
