Did you see it as careless/reckless or intentional?

That was the only way you could see it...

So why not pose the question?

Also I have to laugh when people continually say "oh back in the day" and "it's tough footy"... Firstly move on and get with the times and secondly it's not even a little bit tough, piss weak in fact and a dead set dog act.

Oh nearly forgot, I've seen and heard some port supporters say he was trying to spoil the ball!!!

Clearly intentional for mine. He didn't punch him in the head going for a spoil or whatever he used his elbow/forearm

Personally I would say reckless. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he was going to the contest and got his timing horribly wrong. When the impact was about to happen he has initially put up his arm(s) as a reflex to take the initial impact to Gaffs upper back then to have his body come through and make the impact complete. Coming in at that pace and just laying the shoulder first then Jonas could have knocked himself out. He got the hit wrong and the rest paints its own picture.

If it was intentional I feel he would have made his mind up to smash him from the start knowing he was never going to get there.

Benny he has clearly taken the footy in that picture, hints why he is looking at the man. Which is why I'm baffled that he said he tried to spoil it last minute.... I don't think it's fair to say it's intentional just on that pic. You can't tell how far away Jonas is for starters.

My first thoughts when I saw the incident was reckless/careless - thought he just tried to make contact and perhaps looked to be spoiling but got it horribly wrong.. looking at that picture though is pretty damning and makes it look far more intentional.

Had he got him a fraction lower though and hit him between the shoulder blades, I doubt it would've even been a 50 let alone 6 weeks.

he still has his elbow down at that point in the picture. he chooses to then raise it. thats the difference imo. guess the tribunal agrees

Club would have chosen the tribunal approach.

My guess is that Jonas would have been trying to "make him earn it" but got it horribly wrong, you'd like to think an AFL player wouldn't intentionally do specifically what happened. Deserves every one of the 6 weeks he's been handed and will need to be clean as a whistle from here on.

The only thing I agree with from Kingy is he was remorseful on the presser and accepted what was coming to him, and then tries to argue he was careless not intentional during the tribunal.
8 weeks is a joke, you'd have to do something extraordinary like touch an umpire

I think 6 is fair. I think Gaff will miss this week and then he'll be back but its the long term issues of concussion that are a worry.

It was a shit act but the bloke knows he made a bad choice. Now he can sit there for 6 weeks and think about it.

Love TJ as a player, but he does need to look at how he attacks a contest for mine. There's a difference between crashing a pack and lining someone up, and Gaff is the third player he has lined up this year. First was a crows player whom I can't remember the name of, then Dangerfield, and now Gaff
