Re: Port Adelaide 2017
Was a report today that Port have spoken to Shaun Burgoyne about playing at the Power in 2018 and an assistant coaching role in 2019. Would be a good move imo. Looking forward to that draft pick 119 we'll get for him

Tony Pilkington on 5AA was the first to run with that from what I hear, so the source is about as flimsy as one gets.
Anyway Daisy, you should have been all over this before Pilko ran with it.

After the way they treated him, why would he go back?

They? As in the administration and coaching staff that are no longer there?
I've gone back to my old place of employment after a change at the helm, it was the best thing I'v ever done, you have more leverage when they pursue you. I think life has panned out better for Shaun all round by moving to Melbourne, I'm sure he's set himself nicely with a few properties over there and now he will have a very comfortable life back amongst family and friends with a cheaper cost of living.

He'd be an unrestricted free agent, wouldn't need to trade anything..... ╭∩╮( ͡° ل͟ ͡° )╭∩╮

Re: Port Adelaide 2017
Currently sits on 162 games with Hawthorn, and 157 with Port.
Would there be any benefit to the signing with respect to father/son?
I think in an off-field capacity, it would be a good fit. He would provide value to our Indigenous Academy.

Re: Port Adelaide 2017
Why bother bringing him back as a player...just get him as an assistant coach. Not sure you want a 35 year old filling a spot on your list

West Coast have just done it with Mitchell.
Melbourne have just done it with Lewis.
35 year old Burgoyne will be more value in 12-15 games than the 40th player on the list and our list doesn't have many ( 1 - Monfries ) 30+ year olds on it.
Anywho, pie in the sky stuff really.

Don't get me wrong, I don't understand why they did it either! If you were a contender, sure. Like you said, all rumours at this stage.

Re: Port Adelaide 2017
It's a sure fire way of securing valuable off field property long term. Obviously Simpson rates Mitchell's coaching abilities from his time at Hawthorn so the best way to secure him off field is get him on field for a year or two and tie him up.
With free agency, future draft pick exchanges, rookie lists etc clubs will be happy to "carry" an older player for a year or two for either on field or off field specific needs. West Coast just rookie listed Drew Petrie FFS!!
But, he fills a need they have and costs them nothing in a monetary sense and takes up but 1 spot on their list ( if elevated ).
Will see more players move for a year to secure a coaching gig from now on, no doubt. Stevie J at GWS another example, even Thompson at Adelaide ( despite not moving clubs is probably getting an extra on field year to secure him off field long term ).

Its more than likely the Hawks will have to retire him, however if he wants to play on and Port want him then it secures his future. It would probably also secure his kids as father/son when they eventually have that choice. If i was the Hawks I would do everything to keep him on our books, solely with his kids in mind

Clear connection to the China push. Every bit helps.
Cathay livid with Port over the travel deals to the China match advertising deals with rivals China Southern and Singapore.

They'll get over it.

Will they? They did not come on board as a sponsor to have its opposition advertised with them with a best price guarantee between the three airlines.
