Fantastic player Gibbs, but can't help thinking the Crows have sold the farm on that deal. Looks like they're "All in" to try and win a flag before some of the current group are over the hill.

Yeah but thats Adelaide window.

If they win 2-3 flags then ... they would've won 2-3 flags.

Not necessarily. They will get a 1st rd back with Cameron anyway, and have 2 x 1st rd and 2 x 2nd rd in a strong 2018 draft from all accounts.

How does it work with the future picks?

Sometimes deals are reported as "a second round pick" and other times its "their second round pick"

IE: Carlton send a 2018 rd 2 pick to the crows as part of the gibbs deal, crows accept thinking it will be in the 20-25 range based on Carlton's expected ladder position.
Paperwork is lodged and it's all signed off.

Now Carlton go and do another deal elsewhere, that say picks up Sydney's 2018 2nd round pick (in the 30-36 range).

Is there anything stopping Carlton handing over the Sydney pick to the crows next year rather than their own?

I don’t subscribe to the 1 player makes a difference theory.

It's always the clubs future pick, not a traded in future pick

Their window is open, they wanna be able to pass the Premiership Cup through it, 2019 with no Sloane, Betts will pushing 33, a few pushing 30, I can see why they are chasing the ultimate goal while it's within reach.

Yeah true .. I understand they had to pay overs to grab a bloke contracted elsewhere, but think this is excessively overs. Still you're right, they're currently better positioned for the stronger draft next year so might not be all doom and gloom.

Perhaps, but we're not having a bank account competition either, you have to peak when your opportunity is there. Adelaide, for once, have decided to actually go all in. I think it's commendable.

2022 not looking good though.

Like him or not, Gibbs is a gun and has been at a struggling club, it will be great to see how he goes with some others contributing.

Me too, but I'd almost be tempted to say they had their chance and add some genuine individual star power via the draft. Who knows, two quality 1st round selections might have strengthened their 2018 side anyway. But again they know the draft pool far better than I do and Hamish Ogilvie is one of the best in the business.

Why? 2018 we currently have 2 x 1sts and 2 x 2nds in an apparent strong draft

I think this really shows the Crows do not rate this years draft at all

Sounds like a few clubs agree

History suggests that not too many draftees make a big impact in under 12 months, there are exceptions but it is a lot like fishing.

You get pick 74 come out and be an absolute gun where pick 6 could be a dud at AFL level.

If he does he will get to play against Watts and Motlop. Toumpas surely would have been delisted by then but you never know
