Punting - why do we do it?
I only had three bets yesterday;
High Opinion (I got $6.50) was my best of the day R3 in Brisbane, 2nd, beaten by a lip
My old mate Vengeur Masque ($101) in the Sydney Cup, looked home only to get nutted, 2nd again
Finally I backed Dreamed ($101) R7 at Morphettville, flew hope beaten a nose...2nd
Good return the last 2 as I backed then e/way but could’ve been a massive day.

I had one of those stinkers that rolls around every so often too - why is it that I can back about 25 Blackbookers that all do nothing, and accidentally overlook 1 which of course wins and pays $19 FFS. Backed the Crows in the SANFL at -25 and they win by 23 after leading by 6 goals in the last quarter.

A great horse and a shame that it didn't run in last year's Cox Plate - if it had been trained by any other trainer, it would have.
No doubt Winx would have won anyway but it detracted from the race imho

How disappointing was the crowd at Oakbank yesterday? Under 5,000 on Monday, around 20,000 on Saturday meaning under 25,000 for the weekend. I popped into the local to watch a few races yesterday and on the inside of the track near the finish post there was about 5 people, I remember being there and it was 5 deep!

In 2003 over 100,000 people attended over the 4 day weekend.

I didn't even see any of the Oakbank races.
I preferred the Sat/Mon double. That was a true test.

I was asked to go, bus trip there and back, all the piss I could drink for the day, breakfast and lunch, all for $120, I don't support jumps races so I declined.

A bit the same here, I'm of the opinion jumps racing should come to an end.

What does it really add? Mind you, I imagine activists will always protest the existence of the sport regardless of the presence of jumps.

Probably stems from the old English hunting days, it's horrible to watch and there's generally at least one fall every race.

More often than not the favourite wins, unless it falls and you don't wanna be betting on having a horse fall.

I caught a bit of a race on Saturday just in time to see a stack, it didn't look great.

Crap fields would have a big impact.

Splitting the carnival over weeks and not 2 days means less campers onsite. Im not sure on the numbers in past years of how many used to camp up there but it would be almost non existent now??

People have moved on, found other activities to do.

Hence why a change of days is necessary.
Friday/Sat or Sat/Sun would be a gutsy move, but the right one.

The prize money on offer last week compared to this week at Morphies is insane.

Not sure how it all works but LHM was nominated for races 4 & 8.

Check it out today and he's in race 3, barrier 1 with Kayla Crowther on board, 7.5kg lighter than the toppy :D :D

Is she still allowed to ride after the efforts at Caulfield? Lol

Na, she's not too bad. I was just bitched about the ride on Music Bay

She's done alright over there I thought, I get where you're coming from though.
