Play this bollocks ( if they have to ) during the split rounds.

Each round 6 teams have the bye, play a round robin on the Sunday afternoon twilight of the split rounds to give clubs a chance to get run into some players coming back from injury or expose some kids to a "higher" standard.

after the new years test it becomes basically footy season anyway.

If they keep the season a similar length for the BBL and just have more games on each day i think it will work fine

I think we might be missing the larger AFL picture here. If successful in marketing it overseas, I think you'll have AFLX branching off and having it's own players, much like BBL. I think this exhibition we're having now is trying to dab their toe into the international waters to see if it's worthwhile having a crack overseas.

For what it's worth, I have no idea why we're trying to market the game overseas. There is little to gain there. Footy will never be a number one sport overseas.

Like BBL, players are able to make a fortune playing year round in the shorter form of the game. Maybe the AFL are thinking likewise - hence SANFL players can up and move to the AFLX to showcase their talents in Europe during our summer ??

My 2 cents is that we should be protecting the game here in Australia first. It's all very well looking at overseas but if the local leagues die, have we really done footy a disservice?

Agree. And in my ideal world finish big cricket around first week Feb to give us a break.
Further, the Sheffield Shield and Harness Racing would be the main attractions for the Feb/early March time, the latter with a big weeknight and weekend meeting over 3-4 weeks culminating in the Interdominion finals.

Sure, but they don't have skateboards though.
