If Crows want him to go, we would need to cover the difference between his existing contract (which AFC is breaking) and Carltons offer.
So is it only when both parties agree to move him on that AFC would pay part of the contract? I've seen players like Cloke for instance have part of his salary paid by Collingwood yet play for the Bulldogs.
Pretty much. If the Crows didn't have much interest in keeping Betts they'd hang onto him due to what they're bound to pay him - But if they could let him go elsewhere and pay only a portion of his wage they'd still be financially better off if he doesn't feature in their plans.
Thanks JK, MW. I'm not sure how this will pan out with Betts but I'll be keeping a close eye on it. Either way, if we grab him for a 3rd rounder I'd be ok with it, as long as we're not paying overs for him $ wise.
