My understanding is it’s if you’ve come in contact with them or where they’ve been in the past 15 min

Who is a 'close contact' for notification purposes?
State and Territory public health officials will have the contact information for other users who have been within approximately 1.5 metres of the infected user for 15 minutes or more.

How does the app know a 'close contact' has occurred?
When 2 (or more) app users come into close proximity their phones exchange Bluetooth signals and make a series of ‘digital handshakes’.

The app records the encrypted reference code, time and proximity of 2 users, through the strength of the Bluetooth signals. This allows the approximate distance between the users and the duration the contact occurred to be determined once the data is uploaded to the highly secure information storage system.

The proximity for a close contact is approximately 1.5 metres, for a period of 15 minutes or more.

daysofourlives wrote:So this Covidapp. If someone contracts Covid they will check their data and anyone who spent 15mniutes within 1.5m of them will be notified?

How many people have any of you spent time with that would satisfy this criteria?? Besides close family, which can easily be traced and warned anyway what does this app actually achieve apart from giving Amazon data to do with as they please? I am working full time with about 20 other people, not one of us would fit the criteria.
Also goes along way to explaining why we have had very little community spread in our vast, open, warm country. Just get back to normal ffs, No international flights in without quarantine is the only measure we now need.

Yep keep the international borders shut.
Keep state borders shut as well if need be.
BUT we need to start moving back to opening businesses back up.
People and families are hurting.
The last week we have had zero cases.

Pubs and cafes need to start re-opening.
I say that not for my pleasure but for families that own these businesses to start rebuilding their lives.

I know a pub owner who has to re-open this week or next or he’s ****!

Why are people still comparing this to the flu season? How thick are they?

The 'flu kills around 30-40,000 people per year in the US, not 60,000, the figure of 60,000 appears to be a spike in 2017/18, the 8 years prior one year is over 50,000 the rest are in the 30,000's, one year is under 20,000. And this is with a vaccine that people can take.

COVID-19 has killed 61,000 people, the first death was on March 1. So 60,000 in 2 months.

With 1,056,811 tested positive and 61,000 dead were talking around 5.7% of infected have died. The US is yet to flatten the curve but are making some headway, modelling predicts some 74,000 deaths by August. And there's no vaccine.

Comparing this to the 60,000 flu deaths in 2017/18. It's estimated 45,000,000 people showed symptoms of the illness and 60,000 died. About 1/7th of 1%.

If 45,000,000 people got COVID-19 at 5% death rate that's 2.25m people dead and an already stressed health system crumbling in a heap.

Yes, it's just the flu.

It's ok mate. You don't need to keep justifying yourself. We've all seen the damage it's done here in SA and Australia for that matter.
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep
Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?
No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.

They haven't yet flattened the curve, 23,000 new cases overnight and over 2,000 deaths.

Since March 28 they've had over 20,000 new cases every day.

COVID 2020- 1,000,000 cases and rising at 20,000 per day. 60,000 dead and rising at 2,000 per day

Influenza 2017/18 - 45,000,000 cases 60,000 dead. End ex.

Tweak away.

Considering they have roughly 3 times a bigger population anything under roughly 150,000 deaths (another 90k more deaths) would have them at a better population/death ratio.

Not a bad effort given they literally have no health care system.
