R2 Port v Centrals Saturday 1410

Postby DOC » Tue Apr 06, 2021 12:39 am

The game of polar opposites.

Port expected to take all before them were smashed by Norwood and looked uncompetitive at times.

Centrals who many pundits (not Gaz) predicted a long hard year played four solid committed quarters of footy and got the win. What a confidence booster. Team first mentality see's the club get a great win and one player leave. I would call that a win win.

I expect this to be a tight hard game. I think Port will make changes at AFL level which will see changes here. They will have as many available as is possible due to the AFL game the night before.

Ports height will be hard for Centrals to counter and on that basis I see them getting up by 2 goals.

Who really knows what will happen this game.

Centrals were real good in round 1, are they like the Crows going to be up and down each week or more like Sydney genuinely bringing the heat each game.

Who knows about Port either.

My tip a draw.

This ain’t the old Port Boon.
That was probably the softest Port side I’ve ever seen.

Centrals to have another win.

Bigger questions : Are they able to sell their sponsors beer at SANFL games ? and is there a shuttle bus back to Pirate Life after the game ?

Absolutely, I’ve seen more than my fair share over the years.
Do you not agree that Norwood were a lot harder at the ball?

Strangely enough, I am somewhat nervous about this match, following the Round One results. Prior to the season starting, I would have been fine with a commendable loss (even by five to six goals). However, I now believe this match is winnable if we bring our very best two weeks in a row... am nervous about whether we can though.

Cheers

Agree with this.

I think we are going to be a team who bounce around all year from 'good win' to 'bad loss'. Some opponents will batter us through their sheer physical presence, whilst other sides at times will get enough ball inside their forward 50 for the big talls to kill us.

The most pleasing part for me last week though was that North kicking the first 3 goals of the second quarter didn't see us completely bend over and be outscored 6 goals to nothing like we have in the last ten years. For one reason or another whether that be maturity, playing for the coach, increased self belief, increased fitness, whatever reason it was they didn't give in and continued to smash in hard...….the rewards ended up coming.

I still don't believe like Thommo and the club that we are a top 3 side.....(happy to be wrong) but if we can be in the discussion of finals until the final rounds and we don't play 3 quarters a game I will see that as improvement.

A shame Boyd didn't leave us three months ago, could of done with the salary cap room that would have freed up. I could send them a couple of North Eastern Football League guns similar to the Coombes boys.
