And in the interview and subsequent commentary with Steve Hocking, the suggestion is all clubs want 2 mid season drafts.

And the VFL paid for by the AFL will be playing tuesday night games for television.

I don't care how good Grundy is, paying someone $1m per year x 7 years is insane. They're paying De Goey $750k per year too,

The Treloar deal has layers though. Collingwood gave up their first round picks in 2015 and 2016 to get him, 2 years of first round picks, they then off load him to the Bulldogs and pay him for the next 4 years up to $500k per year!

Then in 2018 they give up a 1st round pick for Beams and, we all hope he's in a good place, but in list management terms they've dropped 3 1st round picks in the last 6 years on two blokes who aren't playing for them anymore and they're paying one of them $500k per year to play for the team on top of the ladder.

Not a basket case?

I hate to admit you are correct on all accounts bar one.
I think 500k isn't right however.
Beams trade, in hindsight wasn't great.
Add to that we've put a lot of stock in our father sons.
Moore, and to a lesser degree, but improving Daicos, have been good but the two Browns haven't set the world on fire.

As I said previous I think the playing group are unsettled re the Treloar trade.

But we certainly aren't a basket case.....yet.

Told he wouldn't play midfield at Collingwood, now averaging 20 possessions a game in the mids, and they are quality.

Boon - I think the $500k is the total Collingwood are paying Treloar, Stephenson & Phillips

Stephenson is hard to gauge, looked out of sorts in a team that beat West Coast in Perth in a final and looks a quality player in the midfield on a pretty thin group in the bottom team. I reckon that sums him up.

I'd have kept Treloar over Stephenson and I'd have made the hard call on Sidebottom to have kept him. At 30 Sidebottom's best footy is behind him and he pissed on his chips last year during the shut down. Would have been a stance for culture and list management.

Big call on Sidebottom.
His experience and nouse around the ball is too important.
I wouldn't be writing him off just yet. Look at Boak.
I'm sure the club looked at every single option other than trade Treloar.
I'd be happy to let Thomas and Hoskin Elliott go any time.

Wingard, Polec, Howard and Ryder, nobody saw Port moving all of them on.

It is a big call, but they're the type of tough calls clubs have to make to move the list forward. Not only did the scalp need to be one on the big money but one closer to the end than Treloar and no point booting Mayne or Greenwood, they wouldn't be on the big bucks. Move Sidebottom on and maybe Treloar and Stephenson stay. Maybe. Just shooting the shit here.

Giving up 3 first round picks means you're short on top end young talent, whilst Treloar isn't young ( 27 ) he's got more good football ahead of him than Sidebottom does.

North have the chance to take Collingwood to the cleaners this year too. If they bid on Daicos with pick 1 the Pies are screwed

Don’t fret Collingwood fans, you’re shortening by round in the ‘Spoon betting....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Former No.1 draft pick Jonathan Patton has called time on his AFL career, retiring after 95 games across eight seasons, with his last six for Hawthorn.

Patton, taken with the top pick by Greater Western Sydney in the 2011 draft, struggled with injury across his career and was traded to Hawthorn at the end of the 2019 season in exchange for a future fourth-round pick, before being stood down in January this year following allegations of lewd behaviour towards multiple women.

The 27-year-old spent more than a month in hospital before leaving in early March, which opened the door for the AFL to ramp up its investigation in his alleged behaviour, as reported by foxfooty.com.au.

“I have made the difficult decision to retire from football to focus on my health, wellbeing, and future outside of the game,” Patton told the Hawthorn website.

“The constant battle to overcome injuries since I entered the AFL 10 years ago has been relentless and, on many occasions, overwhelming. Whilst I have loved every minute of playing on the AFL stage, my enjoyment of the game has ultimately diminished. As such, I will not play football at any level this year.

“I also want to take this opportunity to apologise for my inappropriate behaviour towards women. Over the past few months, I have taken time to reflect on my mistakes. My actions were completely unacceptable, and I am truly sorry for any distress I have caused. I am committed to continuing to learn from my mistakes and actively make the necessary changes.

“I have very much appreciated the opportunities I have been given by both Hawthorn and the Giants and for the continued support I have received from countless teammates, staff and fans from both clubs.”

In its media release confirming Patton’s retirement, Hawthorn stated it “acknowledges this has been a difficult period for all involved” and supported Patton’s decision “as well as his commitment to learning from the past”.
