I have heard Centrals have got a lot of ruck options.

Yep please take Marsh.

Match now confirmed as a curtain raiser to an afl fixture.

It would've been superb to have held it as a stand-alone fixture at AO (or a central suburban ground) with 5000-odd fans in voice.

As it is, the game will be played in front of 30000 people who largely do not care, and whose care will not be any greater by the end of the match. WOFTAM.

Might as well not play it at all.
Waste of time playing as a curtain raiser to the AFL

I am always interested to watch these games but in recent years they haven't always been broadcast on tv. Given this is a curtain raiser, does anyone know whether it will be shown on Ch7 or streamed on the SANFL app?

The squad looks strong, particularly the midfield.

I would really like to know what the criteria is for picking players in this squad. Each year it seems to contain a mix of players who you would consider walk-up starts - multiple seasons of playing good quality footy including the current season. However it always seems to contain a number of players who couldn't possibly be picked on track record. They are either young kids with the potential to be superstars in the future but are far from that presently. Also players - typically ex AFL - who might be decent but perhaps haven't really played enough SANFL games locally to deserve a spot. Two such players that probably fit that category are Horne and Stengle.

Horne and Stengle, local boys, what a wonderful opportunity. I remember Matthew Pavlich playing state football as a 17 y. o. If they are good enough they deserve it.

South haven’t even played Glenelg or WWT yet so how can we have the shortest odds?
There’s no guarantee we’ll even beat Norwood Friday night, they have a lot of players coming back according to the injury report.
I still have the Eagles as the team to beat with Glenelg close behind. It’s week to week with Port depending on AFL players. Then I have North, Norwood and South. Still a long way to go.

Embrace the the fact that this is the year
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I always live in hope that every year is the year but there will always be an underlying sense of pessimism.
No Grand Final appearances since I've been alive will do that.
But I love my Panthers nonetheless.

With the COVID situation in WA and moving AFL games this weekend, would the State game next Saturday be in any doubt? You would think it would have to be, which could mean a weekend free of footy (good for Ammo's and Country Leagues!!).

So a WWT player (Burgoyne) will play league football for Port for a month and then go back to WWT.

WTF are they (WWT) thinking in allowing this?

I deeply suspect a commercial transaction has taken place.

The first club to sell us out in 2014 does it again.

Loan arrangements like that are not an uncommon place in world soccer.

I guess they feel he gain some league experience and come back a better player when potentially there are going to need depth as the season wears on and injuries mount/

You may get yours back when later in the year when you beat Port in a BOG performance from him.

Im actually not anti a loan system provided the rules mean both teams are in agreeance on the loan.

As an example I would rather the AFL have a mid season loan period than a mid season draft system that rapes SANFL clubs. Same can be said I would rather SANFL clubs loan from one another than recruit players from ammo/country clubs on the deadline date.

I guess Port people will say he’s a port player due to his name still don’t like it
When Port get an AFLW team will they say Erin Phillips is a port player due to her dad I bet they don’t
