My bad, I thought this was the Port Adelaide 2021 thread.

Did I say we have more injuries than anyone else?

Did I say we are the only club with injuries?

Maybe you should have your own Port sub forum on here then and perhaps to be fair, one for the Crows, too?
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Maybe we could all discuss a topic without having to flop it out* every time?

It's a difficult proposition, I appreciate that.

Port Adelaide headed to the Gold Coast to take on the Suns and like a carton of West End Draught you knew this was going to be tough to get through even before you started it. Gold Coast, with 4 wins for the year over fellow cellar dwellers North, Hawthorn, Collingwood and a depleted Sydney are once again drawing the ire of the competition and the performance on Saturday will do nothing to curtail that. It was an ugly brand of football from a side struggling for direction and at no point did this match make you want to call a mate and ask “You watching this?”.

A back half turn over and fast break had Gold Coast on the board first with King kicking the opening goal of the game, from here on in though it was, as expected, all Port Adelaide. From that point at the 5 minute mark of the first term Port kicked the next 7 goals as Dixon and Rozee go into half time with 2 each and Motlop, Amon and Lienert one. Motlop had a sensational first half, working as he did in some of the early matches of season 2021 up and down the ground and creating an avenue to goal he was rewarded with 9 marks, 26 touches and 2 goals for the match. If not for injuries to some of half forward stocks I imagine he was on the edge of heading back to SANFL level but, as is the way with Mots, he pulls one out of the bag when he needs it most. If only his best and worst was closer together.

The second half didn’t get any better, 4 goals to none in the third term, the game isn’t reaching any dizzying heights and at this point and the Prison Bar Ales on offer at The Port Club have started to kick in so judgment from here on in may get just a touch fuzzy but one thing I can assure you of is Ollie Wines continued his All Australian form. Just one disposal off of the AFL club record of 44 set by Peter Burgoyne, Wines amassed 43 disposals, 8 marks, 6 tackles, 5 clearances and 6 i50’s to easily take home the 3 Brownlow votes. He’s averaging over 32 touches a game in 2021, 14 of those contested along with 5 tackles and 5 clearances, those numbers alone in a match would be vying for BOG honours, averaging them is elite.

Another pleasing aspect was the form of Rozee, after 5 in a big game against the Cats he’s backed up with another 3 goals and 7 score involvements, with the likes of Fantasia, Butters and now Gray missing from the small forward mix we need him to continue this upward trend line with his form. Aliir bounced back to some of his earlier season form, doesn’t hurt when the opposition has few marking targets forward but credit where it’s due, Drew again provided some solid midfield support for Wines with 7 tackles and game high 10 clearances he’s certainly established himself in the side this year. Houston and Amon had sound outings, Byrne-Jones one of his better days out for the year and Lienert, as most of us expect of him, was composed with ball in hand. Most Port fans would like to see more of him at AFL level and I’m one of them.

The win keeps Port’s winning form over sides outside the 8 at 8-0. Funny though, in 2018 and 2019 when we dropped games to sides in the bottom 10 we were questioned about our consistency and, rightly at times, our legitimacy as a contender was questioned because of it. Now when we beat the sides we should beat we’re flat track bullies. I guess the scribes can have their cake and eat it too.

On a sour note Robbie Gray’s 250th outing didn’t end as he would have liked on a personal level, a knee injury ruling him out of the game before half time looks like he’ll miss several weeks and adding to our growing injury list Jones tweaked a hamstring and looks set to also miss multiple weeks.

I went along to Alberton on Sunday and Dylan Williams was the stand out with 6 of Port’s 7 goals, he looks a naturally gifted footballer and while he doesn’t cut the figure of an AFL player he might make his way in for a debut against the Swans on Saturday night. Bonner was serviceable, Frederick lively as always and Woodcock worked hard forward and in the middle for 8 tackles and 8 clearances.

Boon’s best – Wines, Motlop, Rozee, Amon, Drew, Aliir

Obviously cant do any more than beat the team in-front of you but you cant help the same few dined out on weaker opposition as they have become accustomed to doing in particular Motlop, Dixon, Allir.

Booney- is it a weird feeling as a Port supporter at the moment....obviously Port have fairly faced critism about their performances against top 8 sides. When you play the bottom 8 sides you kind of on a hiding to nothing. From an outside perspective it feels like you lose and you become a laughing stock and when you win its has that somewhat empty feeling.

I remember Centrals being in a similar position where really nothing but the finals count so even as a supporters sometimes it was hard to find the motivation for the lower ranked minor round games.

I would of gone with:
Port who are a good average side beat up on the Gold Coast who are a shit side and need to look to relocate and/or merge with another side.
