An absolute champion of the game.

While I'm not a fan of his staging for frees, his skills and footy smarts are exceptional. Congrats Robbie and agree the lack of media attention this week is a disgrace.

Floppy Gray I called him.
But can seriously play.

And yet the 'villain' James Sicily got 1 week for 'stepping' on Atley's leg a couple of years ago.

Yep if it was Toby Greene it wouldve been 2 weeks for each 1st offence.
It was also noted had Selwood commited some other offence in the same game it also wouldve been deemed a "1st Offence", something not right there

Greene got the same penalty (fine)for his strike and had the charge dismissed for handling an umpire.

Not sure if Larry, Curly or Mo was presiding this week.

As a community umpire particularly one who does juniors in particular U/18s and 16s (occasionally) where the hormones and chest beating is prominent this is the crap that we needs to get out of the game.

The kids see this and go yep I can do the head rub into the ground, I can drop the knees, I can do the late bump with minor force. Next minute the kid who it been infringed wants retribution so he can impress his teammates, family and new missus on the sideline and it is a sh!t fight. parents are going off, coaches are going off and nek minit you're handing out cards like a casino croupier...

They see the stars do it an get away with it and think yep I can do that it's smart.

Worse still you get the cheeky b@stard in B grade who does it to the wrong bloke and it's on like donkey kong, FMD I dont need this shit. It impacts on recruiting umpires.

Seriously Hocking do your job wipe out this crap.

AFL players are disciplined (pretty much) they know they're being watched and cant get revenge. Mental midget community footballers dont get that.

Well said.

I think Booney posted some time back that Mumford and co just get fine after fine and it does not change them at all.

For all Hockings talk about doing everything to protect players yaddah yaddah yaddah he is found wanting on several fronts less than a week later.

Imagine if there were 9 games.

Thugs out. Hard contests in.

Couldn't agree more.

As a 36 year old returning to footy nothing shits me more than being at the bottom of pack after a tough contest to have your head deliberately rubbed into the ground.

FFS im an absolute spud lucky to get 15 possessions a game, just play the bloody game, tackle me as fierce as you like and beat me comfortably without all the other bullshit.

They need to be considered first offences as he hasn't been proven guilty yet.
If he challenged one and got off, then the other is correctly his first offence.

Same thing happens with drink drivers, if you get pulled over a second time before you've gone through court with your first slip up, they'll charge you the second time as a first time offender too.

I'd imagine a lot more frees were paid back in the day as a result of there only being one umpire.

Plus back then you had to actually hand ball the ball and not throw it.
