“In the event of time being lost during the match, the ICC match referee will regularly update the teams and media about the way in which the reserve day may be used. The final decision on whether the reserve day needs to be used will be announced at the scheduled start of the last hour on the fifth day,” an ICC statement said.

"The Reserve Day has been scheduled to ensure five full days of play, and it will only be used if lost playing time cannot be recovered through the normal provisions of making up lost time each day,” ICC had said in a release while announcing the playing conditions for the WTC final.

They were optimistic that they'd only need 1 reserve day to get in the full 450 overs

Whats the deal if the Test is a Draw?
Is one team recognized as World Test Champions or is it shared?

Interesting that no-one knows if it goes to a Day 6 until the last hour of Day 5

Love the concept of the Test Championship but reckon the neutral venue for the final is a real flop (even beyond the weather).

Imagine this played at the top teams home ground either a crazy Indian venue or packed boutique NZ ground. Im sure you could enforce some rules around the quality of the pitch to ensure its not turned into a batting road (they kind of already have with a draw meaning there is joint winners). The prestige would be much better imo.

I think a packed house at Lords for the final would of been fantastic. Unfortunately that and what you've mentioned is not possible at this time so they've had to make do. We're fortunate there's cricket to watch and the WTC final is going ahead despite what's going on in the world.

Possibly in the future the ICC will firstly get the WTC fixture fair and balanced and the final will be played in front of a packed stadium at Lords or at the top teams home ground.
