Red ball cricket played in a "traditional manner" i.e. appropriate over rates, minimal breaks in play, with a intent for results and with respect to opponents,

I disagree about T20 killing test cricket. In the major countries test crickets popularity is as a good as ever. Its really on SAF, WIN and SL where test cricket is struggling.am Bays wrote:EFAwhufc wrote:

Look at India's progression as a test playing nation since the creation of the IPL. They have come on in leaps and bounds.
I also question what test crowds would look like if it wasn't for T20 being the introduction to cricket for children. I know in my household my partner and 2 older children only have a passion for test cricket after learning and understand the game via t20.
Yeah its getting scheduled at the wrong time in Australia but realistically we are still the number 2 nation in the world (if it wasn't for over rate penalties) so our on field performance hasn't been that hampered by the introduction of t20.
Some of the best test matches in recent history eg India run chase against us and Stokes run chase against us don't happen if t20 was never formed.

Re: Australian International Summer (The Ashes) 2021/22
Read my post again, I'm not saying T20 is killing cricket or test cricket in particular, Test cricket is struggling and it's where Chappell is spot on, is how the Administrators are scheduling T20 and using it as a cash cow to the detriment of other formats.
Over saturation of a product can kill the golden goose.
Your wrong about T20 and Stokes chase, the best ever last day chase in test cricket happened pre-T20 in 1948. Another great test chase happened pre-T20 in 1999 and I saw a side chase 500 in Shield cricket in 1991. Those chases happened occurred because of a positive intent to play good cricket which is the basic tenement of my argument.
So please dont say how T20 is the reason why there a great chases in red ball. Both forms of white ball cricket have contributed to batting stroke play.
One of the reasons why test cricket in those countries you mentioned are struggling is because the administrators (Australia more guilty than most) arent prepared to schedule test cricket against those nations.
When did we last play West Indies, Bangladesh, South Africa and Zimbabwe here. when did we las tour those nations for test cricket. One of the reasons is because the increase in T20 comps and that limit player availability.
However the biggest reason IMO is not T20 per se but the fixation by administrators on $$$$ as opposed to growth of the game to improve the standard.

Re: Australian International Summer (The Ashes) 2021/22
The reason test cricket is struggling is because of situations like this. They've played 20 overs yet still need to take tea rather than just get back out there and play FFS.

FWIW I can respect what you have posted
You post sum interesting stuff at times , seemingly always a good read
I can add that I have followed these sports in SA
Dogs
Trots
Races
SANFL
Sheffield Shield Cricket
Test Cricket
Big Bash Cricket
The first 5 , attendances have spiraled downwards since i first attended
The marriage of Test Cricket and Big Bash Cricket means cricket still has a combined good attendance overall
Cricket is getting bums on seats- the other 5 sports are struggling
Therefore my conclusion is Administrators have mostly got it right
I reckon BB competes with Sheffield Shield more that Test cricket in SA
We still get BIG crowds in the Test matches , and now have it for the BB as well
BIG Bash has regenerated the crowds that the Sheffield Shield cannot
AMBAYS you raise some interesting points as well
BUT
I ask how have the administrators got this wrong with over scheduling of the BBL?
How can anything that attracts crowds of 5,000-20,000 consistently be over-scheduled
And to get those crowds 5+ times a season equates to a lot of $$$ takings and TV rights and and and
And they still get a BIG crowd for the test matches on each day
WIN WIN for the Administrators
I know you dont answer my posts, which is great as you cant prove me wrong

Imagine the uproar on here if Alex Carey got out like Pant did. India 6 down with a lead of 157. Pitch offering plenty. India to win from here.Armchair expert wrote:Rabada getting SA back in this

In saying that Pant has some credits in the bank given the success he 's had batting in the manor.

isn't there another thread for non Ashes related stuff?
On the Ashes, I'm sick of the highlights of Sydney test being the groundstaff running onto the field.
