Mate, if it wasn’t for your positivity on here, I would’ve had Centrals finishing 11th.

I was referring to someone placing South on top :D

Both as likely as each other.

Hard to predict a ladder at this time of year but have had a crack regardless with rational below:

South
Port
Eagles
Sturt
Glenelg
Adelaide
Norwood
North
Centrals
West

Eagles - have lost arguably our top 3 players from last year to the AFL with not a huge lot of recruiting to compensate. Add to that retirements of an additional two key players in Whether we stay top will depend heavily on whether Sheedy can unearth 1-2 players from our juniors as well as continued improvement from players like Beecken, Litster etc. But I'm expecting a slide downwards a couple of places , if nothing else because 3 in a row is a difficult task.

South - maybe a similar position to the eagles losing key players but they seem to have recruited well enough to compensate. I'm expecting them to be similarly placed to last year or perhaps a slight improvement.

Glenelg - It feels like they have been relatively quite during the pre-season. Have lost some players, have gained a couple. Could see them slide a place or two.

Sturt - finished the last half of last season with excellent form and seem to have a bunch of talented kids who will be better for the experience last year. Some experienced names have retired but perhaps their best was behind them anyway such that their absence won't hurt as much as if was a few years ago. If Wilson can get fit and play all season it will be a massive plus to their midfield. If St Kilda poach Lienert at the last minute it will hurt. However I think they will rise a few places

Norwood - feels like they have broken even with 'ins' and 'outs' but if Naish is drafted then I feel the midfield will definitely be weaker than last year. Predicting a small slide.

West - don't know anything about their new recruits and don't think Hartlett will make a huge difference. Will be more competitive but can't see them getting off the bottom.

Port - Will be a lot stronger with their juniors drafted from last year still unlikely to be playing league but with far more experience and development so will be much better players in the SANFL. Throw in ready-made players like Skinner and they will be a tough opposition.

North - felt they struggled at times last year and no immediate stand-outs with recruitment. Will be heavily reliant on internal improvement. Will remain similarly placed to last year or fall a few places.

Centrals - will be more competitive this year with more depth. Big unknown is who and how many players can improve to be consistent players at league level. If the majority of their recruits can demonstrate they belong at league level then they might rise 1-2 places. But for now can't make case that they won't be in bottom 3.

Adelaide - will be much better this year for similar reasons to the Power.

OK for what it's worth

Sturt - good coach and good young players
Eagles - great coach good system can the new ins replace some of the outs?
Glenelg - Have the cattle, can we defend?? Like all past better Glenelg playing groups, good side but can we be a team?
South - have lost more than they've gained (just) rely too much on Gibbs and Broadbent who arent getting younger
Port - are starting behind the 8 ball with injuries to the AFL team Covid factor
Norwood - rebuilding can easily sneak in though
North - lost a few key plyers and not everyone is on the same page
Adelaide - see Port but with less talent
West - have to improve with their ins but could easily finish last
Central - Thomas has his work cut out garbage out garbage in (as we say in health S&Q when referring to data)
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Bays - still a good side
Eagles - still a good side but hard to replace Hayes and Stengle
South - good recruiting but may take a while to settle
Sturt - on the way up but still lack depth
Dogs - good recruits + heavy praying by many supporters
North - slight rebuild
West - good recruits
Port - injuries
Norwood - big rebuild
Adelaide - SANFL not their focus

Bays and Eagles are well ahead of the rest.

Could throw a blanket over the other six SANFL Clubs.
Andrew Capel rates the Dogs in the bottom two (as do most posters here). Thats fair, based on the previous season.
However, the Dogs have improved a lot in 6 months: cleaner with skills, better organised and taller than in the past 4/5 years. And more players capable of a BOG performance on any given day.
Will play 7 or 8 debutantes this weekend.

I think the test on whether the skills have improved or not will be this Saturday under the pressure of a match for points against the oppositions best side they can put on the park at the moment.
