In the NRL last week the Canberra Raiders left out their captain Jarrod Croker from the team so he could play his 300th game at home this week.
Luckily for them they won by 1 pt (lucky penalty) last week anyway.
Surely no AFL club would do this? I find it incredible.
And at the end of the day 300th game is only 1 more than 299.
Imagine if they'd lost and missed out on the finals this year by less than a game.

Fair call, but I can understand the Crows pulling out players from interstate games as its not as though it will make any difference to their loss except for the margin maybe.

I do know that Melbourne's transport system is a huge point in the polls. In terms of what constitutes 'Livable' i don't know.

In terms of Living here in Melbourne, and while all the things mentioned by Carey are good. It's way more than that.

We rarely go into the "city" we are really over serviced in terms of retail, so many options locally. When we do go to the city (or the G) we go by train. That was never an option for us when we lived in the Adelaide Hills.

Fresh food markets reasonably close by (despite what Wedgie thinks of Preston), then there's the pubs, restaraunts and cafe's all around.

In terms of sporting facilities that local footy & cricket clubs have, sadly they are miles in front of SA. I'm not bagging SA here by the way, its just such a large population here and the numbers demand the government grants.

I have 6 decent golf courses within 25 minutes of my place, plus 2 ordinary ones.

A tram to Glenelg, MUCH nicer than the Melbourne foreshore!

Cleaner air,
better wines & wine regions,
less traffic,
superb seafood.

Live music scene in Melbourne is so awesome compared to Adelaide.
My wife hates Melbourne with a passion mainly because of how dirty it is but I love it, live music and sport is more than enough for me!
I do love the fact that the CBD in Adelaide is a $10 uber away and the beach is also about 10 mins away though.

In fairness it's 30 years since I've been there, they might have discovered English as a language by now!

The Economist has released its latest list of the world’s most liveable cities, and while plenty of Australian cities made the cut, Melbourne came out on top.
Victoria’s capital lost the coveted title due to pandemic lockdowns after seven years on top. But now it’s back as the country’s most liveable city and third globally.

The capital of Austria, Vienna, came out as the world’s most liveable city while Denmark’s Copenhagen came in second.

Rankings were based on Health. Education, Infrastructure, Stability and Culture.

Sydney just missed out on a medal, coming in fourth globally.

Brisbane jumped from the 27th most liveable city in the world to 16th!

Meanwhile, Perth and Adelaide leap-frogged Brisbane, with both cities now in equal 12th .

“I think we can proudly say we are the capital of all capital cities here in Melbourne,” said Melbourne Lord Mayor Sally Capp.

There's a huge mixing of cultures, and to me that adds to the appeal. The stall holders all speak acceptable engrish....there's always the international language of pointing to what you want...

Agree but i guess its all related to age, wants in life etc which makes those polls, ratings whatever extremely pointless.

If you were a young 20-25 real strongly driven career person than Sydney becomes a hell of a lot more appealing. Me nearing my 40's give me an old country town which is close enough to make the city a day trip but far enough to have our space and distance.

Melbourne is a $hithole
I hate even visiting the place
City is gridlocked most of the day
Cant get a train to / from airport
Casino that ate Melbourne - I've never seen a city life so controlled by a casino. Even Monte Carlonese have a life outside the cassas

Sydney is great if you live the lifestyle
I lived in Manly
Warm most of the year / beach life / ferry to work
Trains go to most places
Didn't need a car unless I wanted to go up the Northern beaches
Easy to get to / from the airport

Peak hour on South and Marion roads is a shit show still and as bad as any city during peak hour.
I find traffic in Melbourne quite good in peak hour compared to here.
