What were the disgusting conditions ?

Exactly: there was a tricky wind but nowhere near the extreme conditions that some matches are played in.

Cracker of a finish. Port's last quarter of 6 goals after 2 goals in the first three quarters nearly finished it for us. Narkle was in everything, great SANFL debut. While I have never been keen on an AFL Port in Sanfl, there was a good crowd and a lot of atmosphere. Eagles defence was brilliant and Dan Menzel's brilliant long goal (55+) to win it for us in very treacherous wind conditions was one hell of a highlight for us in what was a great game.

Nothing better than a 'backs to the wall' win as underdog in tough conditions. I thought the Eags were terrific for the first 3 quarters, the defence especially being tough and resilient against a much taller opposition. Beecken is back to his best as is Lehmann and Buck, Litster and Studham were desperate. Menzel, after being written off by some contributors showed his class and leadership. He is a must in the best Eagles team when fit. Would like to see more from Ballenden, Collier-Dawkins and Williams though.
Three in a row for the Eags and they are looking more connected and in sync than earlier in the season. The defensive aspect has been a major improvement, with the last 3 wins keeping the opposition to an average of 47 points.
Narkle too good for SANFL level on that display and Jonas will struggle to get back into the AFL side on his form today.

The stiff Northerly blowing across the ground gusting to gale force at times made kicking the ball very difficult. It was harder to kick in that than it was in wet conditions and the standard of the game showed that. The first 3 quarters were unwatchable.

You enjoyed the spectacle?

*EDIT*

"The thrilling climax was at odds with the error-riddled, forgettable nature of the opening three terms. Breezy conditions played a role as missed targets and shocking fumbles were in abundance"

Hence the last quarter was. But as Booney said the first three quarters were the worse football you could have seen for years, was awful to watch. How many balls went out on the full that the wind got hold off, must have been close to 20

Many years ago we had a game like yesterdays at Alberton with the wind being awful . I think we won by kicking the only goal . It was years ago weather might not change much in Adelaide’s suburbs

A gutsy win by the Eagles. By the "eye and "front bar test" the Eagles appeared to be in control for the first three quarters ( despite final hit outs 19 to 54 and inside 50s 31 to 63) before desperation by the the magpies for a win seemed to open up the game. Ten goals were scored in the last quarter compared to seven in the previous three quarters. The Eagles found the combination of Hayes and Narkle hard to stop, giving the magpie forwards many opportunities. Early on the magpies failed to use local knowledge to kick goals and possibly cost them the match. I thought the Eagles defence was superb, fantastic desperation and clinical spoiling. It was good to see some lesser knowns for the Eagles stand up when given extra responsibilities to cover for the departure of Mitch Hardie and the loss during the game of captain Joe Sinor. Most probably Rory Lehmann's best game for the year.
Luke Beecken also played very well, his last two games have been very good, hitting top form at the right time. A timely win for the Eagles.

Is the draw in 2018 what you are referring to?

Port 4.4.28 WWT 2.16.28

3/4 time score was 2.3 to 0.10, so like on Sunday, more goals were scored in the final quarter than in the first 3 quarters.

Same amount of scoring shots yet 63-31 inside 50’s, you rarely see a team lose with that much more forward play.

Nope, its traumatic!!

Bays', 2009 2x finals games summed up in one stat.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Our forwards press right up, causes congestion across the midfield so we don't let scores in. We're then slow to get back but when we do we lock it back in but by then the opposition is back and while we're forward we're working in a phone box to try and score.
