We couldn’t have played that test any worse and still nearly pinched it.
Batting was pathetic, bowling was absolute garbage in patches and the Captaincy and tactics were once again terrible.
Nothing went right for us this test
Put Boland and Warner on the next plane home though

Nothing went right because our decision making was atrocious.

Boland and Murphy out, Green and Hazlewood in, perhaps Neser, no point playing a spinner for the sake of it, the Windies never did.

Neser has been released from the squad to play county cricket

Drop Warner and bring in another batter or just open with Marsh, he couldn’t do any worse.

End of the day we were at least 50 runs short due to weak shots at the top of the order, dum shots when we’re set (the crap shots England we’re guilty of in the - 1st two tests) and our bowling plans to the tail.

Need to back Murphy in

How good would a tour game be this Thursday to have a top order bat off between Warner Harris and Renshaw. Give Murphy some overs and have a look at Neser.

Arrogant tour planning by us to not have a game now against say the English Lions.

First innings
Australia 4/240
England 5/87

Yet we only need up with a 26 run lead
That is where it was lost

Agreed, but as far as this test went, I suppose I'd be hesitant too with so little to bowl at.

FWIW, I'd like to think 'Smudge' had a bit of a rye smirk after Jonny rearranged his own furniture off Starc for a similar second stay.

Kind of glad the series has some life in it. Ultimately the Aussies are only one really good batting innings away from retaining the Ashes so it's definitely not panic stations.

Warner just has to go...... i don't care who or how but he needs to be replaced, we are playing with 10.

As others have said no real point in playing a spinner if he isn't going to get used, might as well play Green to strength the batting and use him and Marsh as the 'fourth' bowler, with a few overs of spin from Head.

Cummins captaincy surely has to come under scrutiny at some point, I've thought for a while now that it has been pretty average including some really poor declarations over the journey. Imo has been covered by the fact we do have a very good side at the moment.

England have done very well to steal a test with a keeper who can't keep, a spinner who wouldn't get a bowl in our country spuds side and two opening bats who just go hard at everything from ball one.

The only unlucky part for us was the dismissals of Marsh and Carey in the second innings where there seemed to be some extra bounce from nowhere. But the team that plays the better cricket seems to get these small things go their way, which over the years has so often has been Australia, except for the bullsh!t over the last one-and-a-half Tests.
Sure, we had some ordinary batting conditions on the third day, but then we also had the best of the batting conditions plus England at least one bowler down, on the second arvo and we ballsed it up.
