Once the umpire lined him up for the kicj i was under the impression that the player was unable to deviate either side of the line after the siren to improve his angle.
In fact I have seen, on Previous occasions ,an umpire line up behind the player taking the kick to ensure he doesn't deviate off the line. The video quite clearly sees Hose take 2 steps to improve his angle.
The point that Summerton ( the player on the mark and I know this because i spoke to him post-game) makes to the umpire after the kick is.. that while Hose was taking the kick ..the umpire called "Play on!"...wtaf!!!

He doesn’t improve his angle, he was behind the direct line and never crossed it.

The grey area seems to be if a player is outside the boundary and then comes in on an angle. I’ve seen that officiated differently in the past, when sometimes it’s OK and other times not. That obviously didn’t happen here.

The across the body kick for goal is nearly the norm now, so probably not being officiated differently, it’s just that in the past it hardly ever happened. Old bastards like us have muscle memory and think of how to officiate it along the lines of a direct line shot for goal.

That said, there may be some leniency now in marginal cases.

In any case, it goes down in the book as a goal … I think correctly, you not. That’s OK, we can agree to disagree.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

Utterly DISGRACEFUL umpiring!
WTF was the umpire thinking in setting the mark where he did?
Was no where near where he took the mark.
Taking 2 steps out to take the kick looked questionable but could only assume that he knew he was allowed to?
And yes, the Umpire calling "Play On" surely voids it being a goal!!!!
Absolute amateur hour at the Bay

Just watching the vision

South player on the mark moves before Hosie crosses the line so it actually should have been a 50 m to Hosie shot on goal from the goal line (if ya want to get technical)

However WTF was Hundermark doing calling play on anyway?? He paid a stinker of a HTB against Stagg earlier when initial contact was on top of the shoulder he got rag-dolled to the ground and then pinged.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Skimmed through my spreadsheet of South results and it appears you have to go back to Round 4, 2010 - South 16.13 thumped by North 25.13.

Also kicked 15 goals against the Power a couple of years ago in a draw. So technically didn't win then either..

Upon re-watching the Hosie decision, it appears to be a cluserf*ck all around. Had a good view of it at the ground and it didn't feel right.

Noticed Phoniex Hargrave hasn't played last couple of games at South and not on injury list. Great talent that would really help South in the coming years, with Wheaton in the mid field as well

Glenelg’s sloppiest performance this year up until 3qt. Field kicking even when not under pressure was atrocious, countless handballs missing targets, players caught out of position. The final qtr had far more urgency, cleaner, fast, direct forward entries putting the opposition defenders under pressure & the results came. South had a real dip, their position on the ladder is misleading.
As for the umpiring, it was the worst I’d seen in many a season. Poor form from South’s coach squealing in the paper, he obviously blocked out the first 3 qtrs where South were given a dream ride & kicked at least 4-5 goals from free kicks/ umpire error. The amount of poor bounces in the middle that favoured South which lead to immediate clearances & weren’t called back was laughable. The Hosie incident after the siren was embarrassing but if the 25m penalty was paid in the first instance like it should’ve been, he would’ve been kicking from the goal line straight in front (comeuppance maybe?) Then there was the mark taken deep in the forward line for South, paid a mark rightfully so, yet after ball spilled free, advantage was paid & an uncontested goal was kicked, never seen that before. Maybe Wright could save Glenelg a phone call & seek clarification on these instances too?

if ya want to get really technical there are no 50 metre penalties in the SANFL. But yeah it’s a goal or another shot.
