you were playing u/23 side..... surely you would of been some what comfortable for a win????

Taking nothing away from the blokes that represented southern.... I think everyone was eluding to the fact that southern was going to be smashed because people felt the side was no where near a full representation of a side representing the "best" of the SFL. look back at the side on the previous page and when I read the side there may be 5-6 players that I believe represent the top echelon of players in the SFL that played saturday. Not sure the reason for this (injuries/ work/ care factor of some players etc) but thats what people were getting at.

I understand the SAAFL is only an U23 side so that isnt a true representation of that league either. but these guys are an actual squad that goes on to play other games and are also picked from a far greater number of teams.

Although not the case as much this year, I believe in the past (certainly the first 2 games) the SFL tried to keep the "average age" of the side to 23 also.

This may be the reason a few (including myself) may be a little surprised with the result. not a bad effort lads.

Hearing the discussion of who did not represent the SFL we fail to aknowledge the lads that did put their hand up.
I went y/day with an open mind to the result as the side we named looked on paper to be of quality and was not let down. The lads in the maroon stood up and had a crack and the commitment was opitomised no more than the attack on the footy by Farrier and Smith mid way in the first term.
Well done lads your a credit to your club.

Also well done to the 15 side that got up and the 18 side that was just to good. Also well done to Danny Irvine for the Bog award. :)

On a sour note the venue is not appropriate to show case OUR footy!!!

Congratulations to the U15's and U18's sides on their wins yesterday, gee you blokes breed some big boys down south!

I did hear however, that there were 5 South Adelaide players thrown into the squad during the week due to the Panthers bye, perhaps not a true SFL rep side then?

Yep, you hit the nail right on the head there SB ---- you'd reckon Porties or the Shoes would have made sure there was top catering facilities for starters.
Couldn't believe it ---no pies or pasties !!! Only some brought in for players, but not available for purchase by the general public.
Play it on a local ground.

Don't think there were any players from south playing for the sfl, maybe a few ex south players. Would anyone from south have helped the sfl anyway with the way they are going anyway.

I don't know Zilm, that makes one thing you are correct about.

You need to accept the fact division 7 is a different standard. it's the same as the soccerroos coach not considering players for the world cup who play in the a-league

Couldn't get to the game due to work commitments but sounds like South Adelaide treated the two leagues with contempt again just like all league clubs do when games such as this and finals are played at their grounds. That is why we have a home final system in the SAAFL one of the things that I am proud to say that I was responible for.

Let' get down to basics how about both sides pick their best players no matter what age. I know of at least 6-12 players in our league that would love to have a crack at the SFL and probably vice versa to settle the bragging rights once and for all.

Have seen several SFL games in my time and your guys would be more than competeitive and it would make for a great game.

But it will probably never happen as our CEO wouldn't let if happen such is the shame.

Your club Presidents need to push hard at your club delegates meetings that the next time you host the game it be at one of your club grounds so as not having to be embarrassed by the SAFC and its poor treatment of you and others.

I know that none of your clubs would let you down as they would want to show case their facilities and their hospitality as they do on match days now.

From what I hear, the SFL delegates are trying to get the Lovelock shield back up and going.

My mail says it won't happen as the other leagues don't want to play the SFL as they are too strong and are not a country competition.

The person who told me this is on the SACFB so consider it gospel

I think the Lovelock dream is that because it is hard enough getting guys to play one game, let alone backing up for a final on Monday.
As for the venue don't blame SFL blame the Dic#$% whose behaviour at G/F s was constantly dangerous hence they really had no choice, it was only a matter of time before someone was seriously injured or killed.
Remember the riot of the Noarlunga /Happy Valley g/f a few years back!
THat was all started by u/18 fuelled with grog..haven't had any of those incidents since.

I dont think that the Lovelock Sheild is the way to go.
GSFL play RMFL and now that RMFL are no longer part of the Southern Districts Zone then surley an approach to th GSFL to play them every year which would have the rivalry that is required to get the best to come out and play.
Also NEVER consider playing at South again - keep it local.

The Grand Final crowd behaviour problem would be unlikely to happen in an Inter-Association game. The atmosphere is different.

All that needs to happen on gandfinal day is the SFL pull their head out of the sand.

If i have a private function at any footy club and there might be a hint of trouble it is my obligation to provide some kind of sercurity. The last 2 GF at porties there was a max of 2 cops and no sercurity, i havent been to a GF at south but i would say there would be a few more sercurity there with less people.

There is always going to be some kind of drama the SFL just needs to manage it better surely with the amount of extra people at a suburban ground compared to south they can afford a couple of bouncers and/or cops at each end of the ground or at the bar checking ID.

Maybe even take a leaf out of the SANFL book and have designated family areas witch are dry zones.

Lets not have this argument again (or at least save it until summer when there is nothing to talk about). As disappointing as it is the Facts are that there has been very little to no crowd trouble since moving the GFto Sth Adel whilst the previous 2 grand finals @ Porties were marred by crowd violence.

Also the Prelim final last year between cove and Porties @ Porties was close to kicking off between supporters again. The actions of many supporters at 3/4 time was pretty average and am amazed it didnt fully kick off.

What was the deal with the rewards for BOG (Danny Irvine) and the runner up BOG in the U18 inter league match. Bog was rewarded wtih a $25 meal voucher as given by the South Adelaide football club and the runner up was rewarded with a new pair of football boots, rumoured to be valued at $250 (from the glenelg fc)?? The young lad that got the boots was from cove i believe.. Sorry cant think of his name.

Also, i noticed that the 3 or so lads that were in the u18 squad received medallions too, thats awesome that they are rewarded with one. But i noticed instead of having it placed around their neck like the rest of the players they were just handed to them. I dont even think who ever it was 'handing' them out even said anything. (as he walked off in a hurry) May of been Dave Murdock (coach) but im not sure.

Good work by the u18 there is some real talent coming through!

Onto the seniors, i enjoyed the game. Pity we didnt win but hey thats football. I think i only noticed 2 different clubs at the game. Lonsdale and shoes, where is the support lads? Obviously some people have things to do on their week off footy but it was a enjoyable day! Even if i couldnt stomache a beer.

Sorry if any of this has been said and i agree that it shuld be played on a SFL local ground.

Have been involved with U18 in the past and usally south hand out a reward for the best player from their zone and glenelg hand one out from their zone. So could have been the other way round.
So i think you will find its the clubs call on what they hand out.
