This Saturday Aldinga Sharks will be the host ground for the Ellie Rose Sampson tribute game. Sadly Ellie Rose Sampson passed away recently at just 6 years old. Ellie is the daughter of Dylan Sampson from Morphett Vale and niece of Aldinga A grade coach Brad Whyatt, both who have worked to make the day possible.
This is a cause dear to all involved and it is great to see two opposition clubs come together to support a great cause! A grade will be playing with a pink footy in recognition in tribute to Ellie. Fundraising will be conducted all day with proceeds going to the Cancer Council of Australia. Please come down and show your support for a worthy cause.

I am currently on a panel for developing a new club for either 2011 or 2012 (realistically I think it may be the later). Having been involved in the HFL (Blackwood) many years ago but still keep a keen eye on that competition, but played & still follow Reynella. I get to a few games here & there.
I have advised the rest of the panel of the financial costs of playing SAAFL and the Div 7 issue. For us to recruit players to play Div 7 of guys who are currently playing Div 3 would be next to impossible. I have recommended investigating the SFL under the condition that they have moved into two Divs. This would make us the 16th team and we would be definately a Div 2 club. I would hate for a new club to play against any of the top clubs. That does nothing for morale. Having competitive matches is all we want from a game (ever tried playing Trivial Pursuit with a genius, its no fun).
Our club will not have juniors as it will be an Old Scholars club, thus juniors will be involved in a school competition. Not sure the SFL's board stance on that scenario, but that may direct us to SAAFL anyway (we are close enough & are also investigating the HFL). But while SFL stands as a diverse one division club, there is little incentive to come. Im sure if the competition went to two divisions, Blackwood may show more interest in moving. Why would they move to play against really weak teams. Financially, the HFL is pretty similar to SFL.

The scoreboard steadily increased so it wasnt a blow out, but I like how the young Flaggies backed themselves & ran the ball. They were prepared to run into dangerous spots, and use them rather than going back and going long down the line like some clubs. If a few players had a bit more focus on the ball at times they could be a danger team this season. They only lack a couple of strong forwards as Reynella's defence was a major difference in my view from what I saw.
Well done Flagstaff, a much improved team this year from what I've seen.

Vale blew the game open in the second half, which wasn't surprising - all about fitness there. But the first half was a much closer contest. One thing that struck me was how Aldinga went out there and took them on. A couple of years back you'd see this team go out there expecting to lose and not giving much of a s**t about it either because it was inevitable. There was none of that yesterday, the Sharks went in hard and gave 100%. Not having watched them play last week and reading all the negative stuff about them on here, I was really surprised, in a good way.The other thing I noticed was that even though Aldinga ran out of legs in the end, I still couldn't see any of that defeatist, complacent attitude that was so prevalent around the club a couple of years back. I don't think a single person out there thought yesterday's effort was good enough, or that they thought they couldn't do better. To me it proves something I've said for a while now - you can't buy success. This time Aldinga are starting from the bottom up, with players that are hopefully going to stick around, and with the positive mentality I saw yesterday, I reckon the only way is up.

Yes I know that the programme might have been decided before this event, but under the circumstances how hard would it have been to make a quick change ? Just switching a couple of rounds would have fixed it.
