It divided them quite a bit, the Bays are a club who have had internal coaches for quite a while with limited success and were in need of fresh blood.
what are you on about here SS? russel sawford was not a bay boy he played in a premiership at souths before moving to adelaide and then retured to whyalla and coached weeroona bay!!!!

I would consider Sawford a Weeroona Bay legend over South or West. That's why he's named on the ball in their Choice of Champions team BOH.
The Sawford family is deeply associated with the Tigers. More so than any other club. Explain why his son Ben plays at the Bays also?
Sawford also won 2 mail medals while playing for the Bays so I think it's more than legitimate to say Sawford was very much a Weeroona Bay player than a South player.
Sawford coached them for years before the likes of Peter(?) Mills and Troy Taylor took over. All of them from the Bays ranks.
Marks (life member of Roopena) would be the first coach without a family or playing link at the Bays in a decade.
I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that would be the case.
You're right, he didn't BEGIN his senior career with the Bays, but shit he sure played a lot of it with the Tigers.
Have heard another big rumour that Phil Smith could be lining up again for the Roo's in season 2009. It will be hard for him to do seeing how he is settled in Lucindale with his school bus service but seeing how Waylon is a good mate of his he may well come back to play This would be a good coup for the Roo's Also heard that Peter Carter from Centrals has signed with the Roo's as well Can anyone shed some light on these ???

Very confident of the roos winning the flag if Smith plays !!!!! Just what if he does a knee in round 6 how would you think they would fair then??? Foolish to be stating that the flag will be won by 1 signing alone. Granted that Smith is a great player and will command serious attention every time he plays one injury could then derail the supposed flag fairly quickly. Time will tell tho Well done if Waylon does get this deal done but for your own sake you would be wise to wait a while for the premiership being all over.
Roos will win the flag with or without Smith with the number of guys they are signing. Prokopec out with a knee recon, who will challenge the South..??? please be serious.
