I havent been to the US myself, but I hear that viewpoint often from people who have.
Its probably a bit unfortunate that NYC is so far away from the major tourist drawcards on the west coast of the country.

I stayed along Hollywood Blvd and the whole street just stank. Homeless people everywhere, people pestering you every 10 meters. like get fuc***.
There's plenty the see in between NYC and LA if you like to go from one side to the other.

Dallas has done a lot in the last 3 days to climb up my list.
Amazing place, great people and very accommodating to the research I'm doing (giving me their program and talking about it for a few hours).

I quite liked Los Angeles and the surrounding areas (Long Beach, Anaheim, Burbank, Santa Ana etc etc), but I do see where you're coming from. There's so much to do there, but there's a very seedy and fake feel to it.

I liked Venice Beach and Santa Monica Beach. Spent a few hours out there one day.

I spent 45 minutes on Hollywood Blvd and was more than ready to go. The most fake city I've ever visited, all about image, but so so dirty.mighty hounds wrote:I stayed along Hollywood Blvd and the whole street just stank. NYC, on the other hand, is everything a city should be.

Agreed. They're so different from each other, but they're both great to visit.

I was in NYC for 8 days and didn't want to leave. Walking around times square at midnight was a very unique experience. LA can go jump.

Nicely done.
I loved being able to play basketball courts where White Men Can't Jump was filmed. Too bad I wasn't playing for money...

Re: Favourite city you have visited in World (inc Aust)
spent 6 weeks in europe last year, plenty of awesome places.
my favourite city was probably barcelona. just an awesome vibe, great value, great weather, food was the best in europe etc.
edinburgh (especially at fringe time when we were there) would be up there too.
london is great, you could spend two weeks there and still not run out of things to do.
prague and amsterdam are the prettiest of the big capitals, and nicer than paris.
i thought paris was slightly overrated, and we left feeling disappointed. maybe we overhyped it a bit, compared with barcelona where we really didnt have any idea what to expect.
