the news is about a footballer who has been sighted at preseason training for a churches club and he is pretty good at cricket

Sounds like last year hutchy, we had 2 ex-Australian cricketers playing at 2 different clubs, An AFL player at another and at Fitzies we had a partrich in a pair tree.
As for the Cows player why would a club want to introduce a showdown losing mentality into thier club? Any club worth its salt would get Port players.

I think you're referring to a 'partridge', which is a bird in the pheasant family, native to Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East..

A 'patriarch' on the other hand is usually the father figure of a family or organisation, of which John Dolling is ours over at PV.. Not too much the little gnome hasn't done on a cricket field in this league.
