Yes its true and theres a clear reason why
And that is?
Smaller feet and hands.
My 15yr old is tall for her age, but even with the size of footballs they use she struggles to guide it one hand to her foot. It's purely that, size of their hands and feet.

Because if they kicked the normal ball further than the men it would make the AFL men's comp obsolete.

Ball Size
It might be hard for the fans to pick it, but the ball is a little smaller with the Sherrin at a size 4. Scientific analysis showed it suited the female bodies better and as a bonus their kicks can fly further too.

Having said that, How many female teams in SA play gridiron?
Are there many?
LFL
LFL died before it started in Adelaide. There was a team, but they never played a proper game.
A few of the girls are involved with the Spartans now.
Theres no league. Some of the girls we train got to play for NSW in the last Womens Australian Gridiron League. They are currently training again to try to join in this years one.
Vic, NSW, Qld and WA all have womens leagues and state rep teams.

Not surprising, would imagine it would be hard to attract enough players to fill the 87 spots required per team and not to mention there's only enough daylight in a day for one game of gridiron so grounds would have been limited

Yeah just found out one of the Flaggy u16 juniors made her debut for West last weekend, did shock me a bit, only played 2 years of footy.

AFL Women’s player Jacinda Barclay has passed away.
Barclay, who played 23 games for Greater Western Sydney across all four seasons of the women’s competition, was taken with pick 65 in the inaugural 2016 draft and has been described as “a much-loved member of the Giants family”.
“We are all devastated by her passing,” Giants chief David Matthews said.
“Jacinda gave up a great deal to follow her sporting dreams around the world and we are grateful that she called our club home for four years.
“As an inaugural Giants AFLW player, Jacinda was a vital part of our club. More than that though, Jacinda’s spirit and infectious personality made her a popular and unforgettable member of the GIANTS family. She will always be a part of our club.“Our thoughts and condolences are with Jacinda’s family and friends during this extremely tough time.”
Barclay was 29.

I wasn't familiar with her sporting accolades until reading that article - a serious list of achievements across multiple codes.
To pass away in that manner, at that age - incredibly saddening

Very sad indeed. I get quite frustrated though when high profile people pass in this manner and there is no real discussion on it by the media. They are quick to say how tragic it is and how good a person they were and then they put up a lifeline number on the bottom of the screen and that's it. It should be discussed more in length and people who are feeling in that position can listen and take it in and hopefully get help they need. It's almost disrespectful to the issue that its only worthy of a lifeline ad at the bottom of the screen. That's my opinion anyway. It's a bloody big issue and needs to be discussed more in length.
