Supporters got sick of playing just on Saturdays each week at the same time. It also meant each club played under the same conditions with the same time off in between matches. No one wants that.
I think they will make it a round robin of SANFLX (remember how popular it was?).
THE SANFL is prepared to work with Port Adelaide and Adelaide this year in the event their playing squads are wiped out by injuries and a Covid-19 outbreak. But the state league is yet to commit to a plan for AFL clubs to use its competition to access top-up players for the coming season. The AFL has told clubs that they must endeavour to field 23 players each week of the 2022 season. SANFL general manager football Matt Duldig told News Corp they were talking to the AFL over the possibility this approach could require state league players stepping up. “We understand the AFL are working through a number of contingency plans should Adelaide and Port Adelaide’s AFL teams be impacted by Covid-19 this season but are waiting on further details from the AFL,” he said. “However, we understand the plan to access state league players for the AFL is a possibility and, therefore, will continue to work closely with the AFL, AFL clubs and SANFL clubs to find a solution to these potential challenges which, importantly, protects the strength and integrity of our competition.” Preliminary discussions have started and the talks are set to continue over the next few weeks with the South Australian situation set to be a tricky one for the AFL. Club sources believe the most likely situation will be that clubs have to use their statelisted players, who aren’t on their AFL list, as top-up players in the event of a Covid-19 outbreak. But SANFL rules limit who the Crows and Port can have in their state league programs, compared to their interstate rivals. While Victorian clubs are able to add an ex-AFL player to their VFL lists, Adelaide and Port Adelaide can only contract a delisted AFL player that has not played AFL or state league football for the past 12 months. This used to be 24 months before the rule was relaxed late last year.

The newish light towers at Unley Oval could be easily modified to improve their output and therefore be able to host night football. Night football, would be great, but it would be a matter of Council approving the event, in the face of the old guard residents who would see the prospect of night football as something akin to the advent of armaggedon.

Maybe, word from Oval Avenue is the lights haven't lived up to expectations.
I think that's bullshit. At the start of the last week they had only wired up two of the six towers. Two of the towers had been individually turned on to ensure the correct wiring but this had been done during the day time. It's likely the wiring will be completed early next week. Lights will be tested again for correct wiring then the tall crane will be bought in so the lamps can be adjusted and correctly positioned. Should be completed around 15-18 Feb.
The confusion might be over the lights use for night cricket. After the lights were approved the Australian cricket board changed their requirement for the intensity of lights for night cricket, the lights at Woodville Oval originally met the standards but the ACB change has made the lights unsuitable for premier league cricket, 2 day, 50/50 and 20/20. Lower grades can still play under the lights.

Given they have never done this before, have never tabled it as a suggestion, nor has it ever been contemplated, I would say narrative or no narrative, this is as far off the mark as could be.
But, if it did happen, on what planet would you need to be on for you to not hear about it?
The SA Jockey Club is seeking $20m in government funding for the $38m project, which includes building a 150m access tunnel for horse floats, buses and pedestrians.
Chief executive Grant Mayer has met with various federal and state MPs and local government representatives to brief them on plans to install an AFL-sized oval and another the size of a SANFL ground.
Mr Mayer said the ovals primarily were aimed at the growing sport of women’s football, with the Glenelg Football Club and Plympton Bulldogs already signing formal agreements to use the space. “We are seeking government support because that will give our board confidence to invest club funds in the vital infrastructure necessary to facilitate this infield development,” he said.

This happens every year, COVID or no COVID. SANFL side gets a few injuries, goes to their zoned clubs, promises the 18-22 year olds the world, tells them they're going to be the next big thing, then dumps them until they need them again. It's why the player "ownership" rules changed to make it easier for the SANFL to do this. Players used to be permitted to SANFL versus now players have to be permitted back from SANFL to their community side.
