Ronnie wrote:SANFL also now having to deal with some hostile media figures. The Crows have a heap of media 'ambassadors' and it's beyond belief they wouldn't expect them to promote Crow interests. Port have their boosters like Russell and Rucci. Even Ricciuto now critical of SANFL take from Adelaide Oval. Effectively the AFL pays the wages of commentators like the Roo so it's hardly surprising but it's a real issue now. I'm sure the club's leak info to the media and get their media mates to get out the baseball bats when they're not happy about the stadium deals etc. I did hear well over 1000 journos cover the AFL nation wide now so plenty of snouts in the trough. What SANFL perspective is allowed, Partland or someone gets a tiny column if he's lucky!

This is an issue that I dont think the SANFL were really that prepared for. They normally are not on the other side of this and hence really would brush this off as saying people are a bit precious. But Adelaide will enjoy a good run in the media like they have and this is an advantage to them in this aspect. Riccuito has already been out talking about the $$$ that the clubs are getting from AO and that something must be wrong with the SMA for this to happen - Although in my opinion I must say I take my hat off to the SANFL, they might be the biggest muppets at running a comp but when it comes to business they know how to get on the right end on the stick.

Anyway I digress what I am saying is that the crows enjoy the good media coverage and will be using that either by leaks or feeding bad info to easily manipulated media persons like Riccuito, KG, Rowe etc. All they have to do is feed some crap and there will be baseball bats all over the shop.

I could be wrong but my perception is that this good business deal was largely organised by a government that was prepared to spend big wads of taxpayers money on something popular to get re-elected. The SANFL just gratefully took the hand-out as they had run out of ideas. Or am I just being cynical?
