From memory, no acts of thuggery actually took place, it was just the perception.

I played against Eastern Park back in 2004 or 05, when I was playing for Gaza.
I'd been out all night at a 21st, & had to be driven to the ground to play- I had left Hindley St at 8am... that's is my defence for the following:
Basically, I went to spoil a mark, & somehow managed to cleanup an EP player with my fore-arm to his head. He may have hit his head as he landed, either way he was knocked out.
Later in the game, I was running back with the flight of the ball, & turned to punch (spoil) & missed & hit my oponent in the nose.
Both these incidents happened in front of the umpires, no reports, no frees.
Now i'll also point out that
1) they weren't deliberate acts of thuggery- just clumsiness on my part
2) I'm not bragging about these collisions, just recollecting on something that's topical

Basically, no one "backed up" on these incidents, nor did I expect anyone would.
Late in the game, an older EP player tried to rough me up at the bottom of the pack, which resulted in me challenging him. However, that was it.

Maybe it was just the era I played against them, but I would not describe them as a team to be intimidated by.

Here's a bit of an oppinion for ya. A few posts ago it was said that Haven were the favourites for 07 flag. Haven had a bad run with injury and depth, which led to an early finals exit. 08 I dont think you will hear a haven player even speak of a premiership. They will all be working to keep together and love their footy and concentrate on making every second count. haven will go about their business next year very quietly and they will answer all critics week by week. As for a HARDMEN side. They will be as hard as anyone in 08. I wish them all the best.

Yeah, its funny how different people have different perceptions of sides. I suppose it all stems from individual experiences. For example, i know sides get uptight about playing Rosewater, especially at Rosewater(No one will own up to it, im sure). To me, they have always been 'the club down the road' - love playing against them, love beating them and i have always thought that their bark is worse than their bite (no pun intended!)
I also remember playing out at Central United as youngster, for Port Districts C grade(against the Units A grade). I was sh!tting myself all day. I remember chasing a ball across the boundary line, and stumbling and landing near a mean-looking bloke in a deck chair. Cant remember word-for-word what he said to me, but it was along the lines of 'Im gonna kill ya you little shit'. Needless to say, i tip-toed around for the rest of the match. That was probably my first experience of Northern suburbs footy.

Agreed Superboot, Haven did have a terrible run with injury in 07. And with limited depth, it makes things even tougher. Look at Salisbury, they had plenty of injury concerns during the year, but managed to ride the storm because of their player stocks.
Have a look at the top 3 teams from 07 - Salisbury, Para Hills and Mitcham. All had very good B and C grades. This is no coincidence.

Look forward to playing Haven in 2008, local derbies, sensational !!! :D

Well,to all involvedsince my last post,i was simply trying to distinguish a team that doesn’t do the head over the ball stuff, but the king hits behind play. As I still look at it there does not seem to be one team in this division that has this sort of reputation. In fact from whats been said there are a lot of hardness at the ball like clubs, which is the way it should be. Overall this coming season should be a cracker!!

It appears that Ca$h Haven are looking much closer than Salisbury West to scalp players from this year. Much closer indeed!!

If you mean Districts, that's no surprise, they tend to have a few that get disgrunted and travel down the road every now and then... and it works both ways...

Ok Felch, but just imagine if players were enticed by the ridicules big spending of Havens, what would P.F.C. do? Probably not much is my guess. (just a question) :D

Well that’s good to hear. Besides I couldn’t see players from either club exiting and making the change, completely different cultures at both clubs! Portland seam to play to their division & Haven act as if they are playing AFL. Very strange diffenence considering how close together they are.

Absolutley 100% agreed... they're only down the road, but on the OTHER side of the bridge... 2 different worlds!
