No doubt the Sth Road players were upset with the decision but how far do you get arguing with any umpire let alone Andrew surely people know that well enough by now. It took a good 3-5 minutes before the game resumed which was ridiculous.

Understand what your saying, and i did not see this particular incident, but does argueing with A Wright show that maybe A Wright has lost some respect within the Cricket Community due to his previous actions... That Andrew has over-ridden a decision instantly creates comments of 'its just Andrew trying to be involved in the game' regardless of whether the decision was correct or not.

Would R Hewett or T Fromeine have had the same backlash if the same actions were taken on the field with this catch on the boundary? Would it have got a page of comments on safooty???

A Wright has somewhat made his bed now, and he will need to get used to people argueing the point with him because peoples perception now so clouded that they believe he is simply trying to be bigger than the game regardless of whether the decision was correct.

Just to continue with that incident, it did take a few minutes to settle down but what most would've been unaware of was that Andrew issued a 5 run penalty against sth road. No one picked up on it. That quickly settled things down.
I did see McGee play and lost his temper quiet a few times. Already has a suspension hanging over his head.
Top game of cricket and good support from both sides. Very well deserved to the bulls, Harvz battered well and hit some big balls, the red helmet guy who pushed singles every ball stedied the ship, cameos from morrow and foster.

Great last over bowled by Roy to Karen Rolton at the end of Sth Rd's innings too ;)

I would also make clear that Andrew didn't over ride a decision at any time he didn't take the word of the fielder. The fielder who 1. didn't stay where he was so that there could be no doubt about whether he was in the field of play or not and 2. The fielder who when he got up didn't celebrate at all. Those two things alone suggest to me that the correct decision was made.

As to whether he has lost respect or not that is a question for each club to make i think. There are certainly some umpires who have more respect than others throughout our comp and maybe Andrew has gone down the list for many clubs but i am sure he is not alone.

One thing that has come out of this year and umpires to me is that there has been a greater willingness by many players and clubs, mine included, to argue decisions with umpires i think it is the players that need to take a good look at themselves as well and not engage in that sort of stuff because how many times have we seen an umpire overturn a decision at our level?

That's because the discipline committee are soft as marshmellows and people know they can get away with a whole lot more in our association.

Easy way to fix it. Argue a decision, 1 game ban. Do it again, 2 games. Again, 4 games.

People will learn.

No, you can sort that out in house now apparently, just let the ASCA committee know what penalty you've got and they will be happy with that!

I don't see the problem in this case with Andrew not taking the fielders word? Especially after the bloke didn't celebrate when he took the catch and in those instances it is extremely hard for the fielder to tell. Benefit of the doubt to the batting side, and in this case, to andrew

Being out in the middle at the time I can confirm Andrew did not overrule the decision. Graham made the call of 6 straight away before Andrew even went and looked. Graham saw the fielder as rolling over the boundary and called it as such.

I am glad the 5 run penalty was not noticed by the scorers as this would have impacted further on the game. However at the time all players believed it had been applied and did affect South Rd in the final few overs.

At the end of the day umpires are supplied. Whether we agree or disagree with the decisions they are the ruling body in an official capacity. I know personally you don't always agree but arguing will never change a decision.

Fascinating final day coming up and you could hear a pin drop on here!
A few sides battling for 4th spot. Going to be a lot of phone calls made Saturday afternoon I think..
If sth rd defend 192, Keswick defend 230 and Belair stop Morphies winning second innings then it gives coromandel a chance if we knock ANA off second innings.
Going to be some very tense cricket from all sides Saturday with teams trying anything for win.
Good luck to all!!
