If somehow we had a genuine keeper doing that, he could bat 7. Would still be below par, but not so far we couldn't afford it. But no keeper I know of is close to that (or not really a keeper) and he wouldn't command a spot as a front line bowler to bat 8. No doubt it's handy to have a strong bowling option, but 4 main bowlers shouldn't need that much support. An attack of Starc, Pattinson/Cummins, Hazlewood and Lyon should manage 90 overs between them in a day and I think that would be the most aggressive line up we could muster.
Personally, I don't think he's got the ability with the bat. Will be a valuable all rounder in the short forms, but I think he'll get dropped before long from the test side and won't produce enough at shield level to force a return. For now, he's being hidden with Warner, Khawaja, Smith and Voges dominating and Joe Burns doing a good job. But Voges probably has 12 months left, Smith already showing signs that his form is wavering and Khawaja won't be neglecting the inner and outer portions of his blade forever.
That's a tough ask at the rate our bowlers break down, especially if one is having a bad day.

Really rate his bowling
Yes he has bowled well recently but needs a few runs. If he can average around min 30's I think you we would be happy with that.
I think his batting in the ODIs and in the Pakistan tests last year show he can do it. The bad thing for him recently is he has come in when we already have a mountain on the board and he doesn't really get to build an innings
This is going to be a really good test win for the Aussie side, overseas without Starc, Johnson or Pattinson.
Personally i reckon Pattinson comes in for Siddle next test.
While Siddle has had a very good test match this test has proved exactly where Siddle is at this stage in his career.
First inning when the pitch had a bit of juice in it he bowled really well and can do a very good job but once the pitch dries out and doesn't have a ton of life like in this seconds innings he has become absolute fooder for the nz batters who could just work him for another 100 days without looking in danger.
His too big a risk that if you don't win the toss and bowl he literally becomes a wasted man. I would rather Bird who can actually create something at any part of the test match.
