Re: SAAFL Div 5 2008
i know it seems like a big number but lets break it down.
50 odd guys who played senior footy last year plus a full squad of U/18's and a few sixteens takes it to between 80 and 90. Spilt them up into a running group and a skills group then it becomes managable. Like i said im not here to start bull**** just to blow the GG horn.
After the first sessions numbers have pulled back ranging anywhere between 40 and 60 but still, the turnouts have been on par with last year.

Re: SAAFL Div 5 2008
well no club can compete with the fastest growing area in south australia for 20-40 y/olds with kids..if you guys arent in div 2 in 5 years something is horribly wrong..especially with the money being thrown at your club by the govt..other clubs would lose an arm or leg to get 1/20th of what GG will get..the only fear GG should have is the fear of failure..everything else is setting it up to rule..dont stumble

To answer all questions....
yes we will be having a d-grade this year. Will be mostly made up of the c'grade from last year as last years under 18's will make up the majority of the c's. That massive turnout also included the enitre u/18 squad. They do a full senior preseason. Also out was handful of preselected U/16's who will get the oppurtunity in the b's or a's this year. It's a great feel around the club at the moment. Extremley proffesional. A new fitness coach on board as well, plus a few players within the group are Human Movment students/graduates so the approach to conditioning this year is becoming very precise and scientifically based. One or two of the lads have been getting some swimming coaching and training into them as well to widen the cross training base. Im expecting more to be involved in that program soon.
Dont want to sound like im blowing our own horn here but in just thought i would give you as much info as possible without giving away too many secrets.![]()
I dont want to be one to start false rumours but the latest news i have is that Golden Grove can expect to see a fair bit more of there SANFL boys this year. By that i mean Skinner, Cavanagh (both Norwood reserves) as well as Jimmy Thomas from centrals. Shepphard has been asked back out to centrals after being cut a few years ago (work out why they cut him in the first place) but he is also training full time with the Burras and is still making his mind up if he really wants to play SANFL.
Might ask the blackfriars boys a question. What the deal has been with Nick Marwe. Played u/19' footy with sparnon and a few othe GG boys and word was he might be leaving SPOC and if he did he would be making the choice between blacks and GG. I know we have had contact with him but no further i have no further info.
Cheers
BurraBoys
i heard from a couple of players that seem to think he may be playing for us, to be honest i'd be very surprised to see him go to golden grove considering he went to school with most of the team b4 he went to saint peters and he also knows most of the guys through water polo. hopefully winning the grand final may pursway him to join us, but who knows untill we see him at training

Re: SAAFL Div 5 2008
No fear of failure out this way. That said we know we have alot of hard work ahead of us. We dont have any expectations on ourselves as our team is still very very young. 15 of the GF 21 last year were U/20 so give it time and some physical maturation we will be hitting full strength with the current batch of youngsters in 2-3 years.
Our junior system is one of the better ones so hopefully we recieve a few good influxes over that period to help support what we do have. The huge plus that the club has is the three high school campus who are really connecting with alot of the a-grade guys at the moment due to the young age of the side. And if things develop as i expect at one of the high schools over the next 4-5 years, GG will be at a huge benefit. Im not hear to start unsubstantiated rumours so i will remained tight lipped on the potential plan until i can confirm it.
On Marwe....this is the second year we have approached him. He has be contacted by our club to best of my knowledge but due to the obvious blacks connection, it was always going to be hard. I was under the impression if it wasnt spoc is was us or blacks. Dont worry. Few players still on the "radar" (some may get the in joke there lol).
Hopefully i can enlighten you on some developments in coming days. What i can say is that we have missed out on Scott Peterson (from Gepps and arguably the best ruck in amateur footy again). Close but no cigar. His brother is our captain and he is marrying the sister of our fullforward so the want to come 'home' is there but give it another promotion or two before we can seal that one. Scudds and another (
) will do for now.

how many were standing around watching the others train?..can u even get 80/90 players on the oval at once to train properly? they all come out every night?
so take 40 away from the number u got 40/50..numbers still rubbery imo but good luck to ya if its correct
true, you cant really train all that well with 90 players on the field, might be a little crampt, or your just doing handball drills! Anyway good luck to GG if they are getting 90 players on the field, they might be the team to beat this season if that is the case.

I wishe we were but we dont even consider ourselves 'the team to beat'. We will take the same approach and same goals as we did to last year. If that gets us in the 5, then job is done

Re: SAAFL Div 5 2008
greenacres and plympton are the teams to beat..blacks are the unknown..last time gg came up they went back down just as quick so they will be focused on staying in the grade first off imo
btw..what kookaburras you guys got out there that have gold and green on their feathers??

Re: SAAFL Div 5 2008
smithies are finals contenders..B grade doesnt really mean to much in relation to A grade..they will be hard to beat at worse..and possible grand finalists at best..depends who comes and goes i guess

Have heard that will all be giving ressies a crack but the word 'passion' regarding SANFL has been floated in conversation regarding skinner in particular. Dont expect to see alot of them but if all turns sour for them at their respective clubs they have (more or less) pledged allegiance. Hewitt and John Boxer will be fulltime kookaburras this year.
Waste of talent??? Hey if your hearts with one club and a good group of mates i dont see anything wrong with it. We were thrilled to pick up Sparnon last year when he could have easily had a crack at centrals, headed to modbury or any of the Div 1 clubs he was courted by. He said he just wanted to have fun with his footy and saw GG as a great place to do it. Thats the general talk coming from the other SANFL lads as well.
