Thank God the mining tax didn't go through. Gina Rineheart only managed to increase her personal fortune by $2 billion in the last year. How could she possibly have been expected to pay an extra tax? She's now "down" to only her last $9 Billion.

Why do you Lefties always hate the winners of society? You bludging tax-eaters hate those of us who are willing to get off their backsides and work hard for a living. Yes, maybe 90% of Gina's wealth was passed onto her but that's not the point. Now where were we...taxes. Yes, now look what this loony Labor/Greens govt is doing to a fine upstanding citizen like Paul Hogan! They've destroyed his career. If someone like a Frank Lowy wants to hide all his money in Liechtenstein to avoid paying exorbitant taxes for being a good Aussie battler so what? The man has got kids to feed you Lefties don't think about that do you? Why do Leftists hate people?
I'm with my buddy 'purch' from the mining tax thread these people create so much wealth for us and look at all the jobs they create? If they weren't pulling this stuff out of the ground all those cashed up bogans in WA wouldn't be swimming in money would they? And you lot have the audacity to attack these big mining people and try and make them pay more taxes. Loony Greens and their wacky carbon price/emission trading schemes rubbish, Ian Plimer says it's all crap! Lord Monckton's got all the graphs to prove it's really about creating a one world government run by pinko communist facists like Hitler or something.

I'm really sick of those pinko communist facists.

Very true, QT is just a complete waste of time. It's just theatre for the tragics to cheer on their side and what not.
"Mr Speaker, my question is directed to the Minister of Trade and blah blah blah and I'd just like to ask him if he could update the house on the $500 million development currently being built in my electorate which my constituents are very happy with etc".

I swear some days you can smell the uranium on Martin Ferguson's breath
While Abbott's will get all the attention I reckon this is quote of the year to date from the Greens' Scott Ludlum Funny and revealing (but not surprising) at the same time.
For anyone that is interested the late Independent Weekly newspaper now only available in daily email form (Indaily) are reproducing their articles on this blog if you want an alternative view on SA, national & international news to News Ltd:

Give the Ranga a break- that crocodile-tear episode would have taken some real effort, the stifled sobs, the valiant attempt to overcome the grief - we all know what a powerful tool crying in front of others can be. I reckon Julia had a few practice sessions in her P House suite before the big performance concentrating on her face controtions and sniffling with jolty halting breathes, She may have to do a bit more work on conjuring up some fake tears cos she never managed to get the whole waterworks thing going, but enough were convinced by her wooden exhibition. If she nails that bit she will have added another useful tool to her arsenal for deceiving the public.
I'm pretty sure there's a lot more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking. And I plan on finding out what that is.
A speech about a nine-year-old dying in those circumstances wuld move anyone to tears.
Not for a minute would anyone suggest that the Queensland floods were anything less than a monumental tradegy. The loss of life, property, animals- really more than we could comprehend. If Julian Gillard had been able to thaw out and show real emotion when she was there with those people who have suffered so much, look at Anna Bligh- she was there for those people. But Julia was wooden, stage-managed and came off looking very poor. Perfunctory pats on the back for people who had lost everything simply did not cut it. How then can you logically explain her sudden flood of human emotion when in front of a gauranteed audience other than a desperate attempt to claw back the approval of all those she disappointed.

I can logically explain it by saying she's a normal person who, like any of us, is moved to emotion when thinking of a nine-year-old boy dying because he asked for his brother to be saved first.
It moves me to tears just writing about it.
It moves me to anger when this is seized on for partisan political purposes.
No comment was made when she showed a lot of emotion previously after the Victorian bushfires.
I (and all those on here who aren't Abbott fans) have readily understood he meant no harm by his shit happens comment and have said so. We were ready to accept that at face value.
By all means be partisan, MM, but also be decent enough to show some human understanding.
So far Gillard has been criticised by her opponents for her voice, her earlobes, not carrying a handbag, her dress, etc, etc.....
As I said, if you want to accuse her of false emotion when talking of people and children dying in the floods in desperate circumstances, I pity you.

I (like everyone on here I would hope) remain appalled and deeply saddened by the tragic events in Qld. But the big game is politics and every day Gillard is in the job the worse she looks. Even Labor voters in my family (shock horror) are deserting her as a credible PM. Being shown up on the national stage by the excellent-performing Anna Bligh prompetd Gillard's machine into engineering some claw back stage managed tricks. I think she is shallow but her over riding ambition may bring her down. Trouble is then we get stuck with Swan who really is a pinhead. Honestly, I reckon Crean would make a good PM but he's on the outer.

Oh I see, so let me get this straight- so you hop onto your moral high-horse and lecture about pity and human compassion when referring to Julia's response to the Queensland floods, but its ok to lambast Tony Abbott over his reaction to the death of an Australian soldier... reeks of hypocrisy to me old chap

The Government's entire front bench are union puppets- Martin Ferguson is the only one out of the entire lot with any real credibility. Faulkner was the genuine article and he could not stomach the machinations and back stabbing leading to Rudd's ousting as the elected PM
