It's been a crazy trip. My body will need a holiday from this holiday!

Hasn't been a lot of issues with the 30 days of morning. No kick boxing (therefore no Tuk Tuk's driving around with the music and stuff playing promoting the fights) no fire works allowed and none of the fire things that go up in the night sky of a night time (can't remember what they're called) it's certainly the most quiet it's been since I've been to Thailand (5 times) although I'm not sure that's all the king passing. Patong has seemed to of lost its identity, it's now very commercialized. It's a shame.

The dollar is also shit ATM, the best Ive got so far is $26.76, prior to this trip the best of got is $35-$36. Talking to a few they all seem to think now most Aussies go to Pattaya, Koa Somu etc etc.

I'm certainly not complaining. I've had a few great tours with still 2 to go but with that being said my 5th trip to Patong I think will be my last.

Hopefully my liver can hold up till Next week.

OH and the Mrs and kids have to wear a black ribbon in certain areas as respect if they have 'bright' colors on.

Tell me an Aussie chick over seas that doesn't wear bright colors!

Also as part of the mourning process, the Big Budha is closed for praying.

I had no plans of going there anyway.

There was absolutely stuff all Aussies in Pattaya when I was there 6 weeks ago. I was there for 6 days and litterally saw 1 and I was doing a lot of walking around and stuff all bars were showing the footy so I watched it in my room. Bangkok was also similar but I saw more there because of a couple Australian bars. Koh Samui there was more but I wouldn't say it was anything worth taking serious note of. Far more Indians, Europeans and Poms and the Chinese were everywhere

Hi there.

The wife and i just got back from Hawaii and New Zealand on the way back.

Thought that Hawaii was really touristy and did not really enjoy much at all. The exchange rate also we expected to hit hard but not quite so hard, after witnessing the cost of everything in Hawaii. The Pearl Harbour museum and other Pearl Harbour tourist sites were brilliant. Was a bit overcome with how big Hawaii is. We did not expect it to be so big. The city is massive to what I thought it would look like. I thought it would be relatively small, but its a massive, massive city.

We cruised back to New Zealand which took us to Wellington and then to Milford Sound then onto Sydney, before flying back to Adelaide.

We are heading to Thailand in two weeks time. Can anyone please let me know of the places to see, and what to do. We have never been to Thailand before and are quite excited about the trip. Bali was fantastic from my few trips there and we are hoping that Thailand is as good as Bali

Agree about Pattaya but I love Bangkok, reckon it's one of the best cities I've been to. I still prefer the Northern part of Thailand to the beach areas in the South. Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and the Golden Triangle region is the best part IMO but I don't mind Karon Beach to rest and relax.

I really like Krabi and more than happy to stay in Khao Lak too.

It all depends on what you want to get out of your holiday.

Both places I thought were fine, Pattaya was an experience but I thought the people there were pretty good.... It's just very dirty. Bangkok is one of the most unreal places I've ever visited and surprised the shit out of me. I actually couldn't believe how clean it was for the majority.

The name escapes me but it was on JL Padma only a couple of doors down from Mozarella restaurant. We were staying at the Mandira so it was only about 50-100m away. Had about 6 big screens with half showing the AFL final and half showing the NRL final.

Sounds like the Y Bar to me. It is a big sports bar with a boxing ring out the back.

Getting closer to our much anticipated return trip to Thailand. The itinerary this trip includes a week on Koh Samui, this will be the chill out time. Then a week in Hua Hin, this will be the golfing time. A few days in Bangkok, this will be Mrs Coronas shopping time. Then home the long way via Hong Kong. Our first trip there so keen to take it all in. Thanks to one SA Footy Forum member who helped set it all up. Hoping he can also arrange the bin put out/retrieval bloke for us while we are away!
