How good is the AFL these days, so good to watch. My pommy girlfriend is in love with the game after not knowing one rule 12 months ago.

Cats must have some depth, despite a heap of outs to the AFL side their VFL side won by 85 points.

Coburg mate. One of the last stand alone clubs and 8 of their 10 losses have been by 60+. They would struggle in SANFL Ressies. We beat them by 90 a few weeks ago and have no depth lol

How good have the last two rounds been? While I remain convinced that the standard of play has slipped a fair bit, it is certainly an exciting competition to watch at the moment.

Pretty much impossible as a tipster to go into any game with total confidence. My only one of the weekend was Essendon over Brisbane.

It is indeed proving to be an extra ordinary season where the premiership, much like last year, will go to the side in the best form at the right time. The next 6 weeks won't mean much at all.

And so it was, with Richmond's system holding up for longer in the pressure cooker environment that was the Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.

With Reiwoldt being well held by Tom Clurey and Alex Rance being tagged at full back by Jackson Trengove the first half was being played on Ports terms, if not for shithouse conversion in front of the big sticks the work of Wingard, Powell-Pepper, Jonas and White would have been rewarded with Port going into half time with a commanding, yet not impossible to recover from lead.

As it stood, Ports 5.11 gave us a 15 point lead at half time, with the weight of F50 entries along with Richmond's struggles forward it should have been closer to 30 points, but, it wasn't.

Most costly were two misses by R.Gray, one by White and one by S.Gray. All, for my money, sitters. Simply not good enough.

After half time the stale mate continued until about 5 minutes before 3/4 time. Rioli, who most people at the ground wouldn't have even known was out there until then, chimed in with a major, within a minute Dustin Martin took his midfield dominance forward for another and the Tiggers were in front at 3/4 time.

By now Rance had got his head around Trengove following him and went back to simply playing the ball as he saw it, Reiwoldt got some separation from Clurey and hit the scoreboard and the smalls in Butler and Stengle both snaffled goals twice in 10 minutes, Butler in the last and Stengle either side of 3/4 time. Was game over as the Tigs got out to a 19 point lead.

This 20 minute period either side of half time was the game in short. Richmond kicked 6 straight, Port kicked 4 points. All the hard work and control of play in the first half gone in 20 minutes.

Now, whilst we haven't been able to knock off a genuine contender to date, we're right there, bar the blowout against Essendon we've been right there in every contest. 3 points to Geelong, 10 to West Coast, 13 to Richmond, 17 to Adelaide shows exactly where we sit. We're capable of going with the sides at the top of the table for a period of time, but we're not capable of knocking them off, not while we continue to be wasteful in front of goal as we were on Saturday. In all our losses this year we've kicked more points than goals. Bad kicking = bad football.

Boons best - Wingard ( averaging 22 touches and 4 clearances per game ), Powell-Pepper, Jonas, Wines and an honorable mention to Dan Houston who is showing immense poise under pressure across half back.

Except the losses to WC and Richmond were at home so you can add a solid 3-4 goals to those margins. The list if teams you have beaten at the oval in the last season and a half is not very impressive

That's why we're not there, yet. Not sure why the pretenders tag is in place, we're not even contenders. Pretenders are those in contention with no chance, we're not one of those in contention at the moment.

One only has to tune in briefly to the radio (both am & fm) in this state to be assured Port are a top 4 lock.

I find watching football to be a better guide than listening or accepting Adelaide's media's view point.
