kinsmanclan wrote:Gaza as Premiers for 2008, Just believe that they are the best club in A1 and will have learnt from the past few seasons of having such a slow defence. Darren Mead was not appointed until just before Christmas last year and now will have seen what player are required to take the title next year. Will get some quicker players coming from defence and forget about all of the shrink stuff. They have been the best side in A1 for many years, just dont have any silverware to prove it. - Premier

Goodwood have done a remarkable job in winning the last 3 Flags, but expect a large fall from grace next season. With many defections by many players and a loss of hunger might see them flop backwards quicker than most might think. - 6th place

Dont underestimate Gepps X as Jason Roe is a good coach and Gepps are back in the offering many, many $$$$$$$$ at players. So expect a large improvement. Gepps do lack one thing though. They are not a true club and lack a united front. They are vey well run from a Bar, Food, Bingo, TAB side of things, but always seem to come unstuck with their sporting teams. Appears that many, many people have a lot to say at Gepps and if not in favour by the 4 or 5 wise men you are a dead man walking. Appears that they cant leave the coach to coach and people on the Board run the club. Seem to always
get their jobs mixed up at Gepps. In saying that though - would expect them to make the 5 but not the GF - 4th place

Tea Tree Gully - Second year blues maybe and will be around the mark but maybe later part of the 5 - 5th place

Port Districts - Will play Gaza in the GF coming from A2. With so many of the Port Under 19 team being pushed into the Reserves at Port Magpies next year, the Magpies are getting rid of many Reserve players. Guess where they will all end up.
Port Districts or Port Magpies Thirds. Take which ever name you like, but underestimate at your peril. - 2nd place

Henley - Got a coach with huge recruiting influence, so expect a big leap from the Sharks. Will finish in the 5 but history suggests that you cant buy a purchase a premiership especially in the first year. Having Inkster and Luke Duncan will be fantastic, losing Rosewall is a big loss and still no ruckmen. A lot of players to come from the Eagles still and a lot to like
about the Sharks this year but could be found wanting on big grounds. Seem to be attracting many crocs back to the club
who lack leg speed. Might have been good players in their day but exactly that - in their day. Still lack big men in key posts and need to get more of them while they are still splurging with the big coin - 3rd place

Your take on the other teams? Broadview, Seaton, Rocs, Sals Nth?

Not to sure about the Rams football magic, in 2002 they sat at the top of the table with uni for several weeks only to just miss out on the finals, could surprise people!

BUZZ you need depth in A1 & Seaton that year never had it & this year look 2 have the same problem unless they get 8-10 players.Alot of their B graders wouldn't play As.

i cant stand it when capable b graders refuse to play a grade, not only does it show a selfish attitude it puts the coaching staff in a bad position in which they dont get to choose their best a grade team possible. though i can understand it when players who are older choose to play b grade to prolong their football career

I am a long time Seaton supporter Buzz - but cant make the finals next year. Lost Hodges at critical time or I would have possibly agreed with you. Probably think 7th place for the Rams. Will surprise a few sides with their young players and especially their talls, but too much to ask in finishing in the finals. And this comes fom a Seaton supporter

Sorry football magic all wrong. Have only heard from what is going on at Gepps from people I know and no titles behind me at Seaton. Never coached never been at a league club. Sorry kicked balls into the crowd one day, these plastic balls back in the 1960's when we kicked Coca-Cola Footys into the crowd during the Mini League at Half time.

Played for North Adelaide this day at the Adelaide Oval - dont even know who we played. Know we got a pie and a coke after the game that was all I was interested in.

My observations just come from watching footy for the last 54 years and Amateur Footy for about 27 of them. No league experience except being in the Roosters cheer squad as a kid. Was there in 72 and 73, at the Adelaide Oval when we beat Port in 2 Grand Finals as part of the cheer squad. Or was that 71 and 72.

Been at Seaton for the last 24 years and have just observed clubs that have spent money and those who aint. Dont worry have seen our Club waste some horrible money (sorry Big Al), on some very ordinary players durng that time as well. Most of these players are only in it for the coin and piss off again in 2 years. Actually watched Goldy Wells an old time Seaton legend play, he was great out there on his wing during the late 70's.

Thats why some clubs <edited by Mods> will always be abject failures. Have never had anything to do with either club - just listened, watched and used my old age to see how money is the actually the root of all evil with some of these clubs. Old age does that Football magic. Things never change and those type of clubs will always struggle in the long term not short term - just as soon as that penny jar dries up so do the players.

Just watch over the next few years as the money wells dry up some clubs, sure they may buy a Premiership or two but wont be a true club. Look at others trying to splurge next year in an all out effort for glory, but what happens to them when a little club like that has no more money.

Take your hats off to the Gazas, Broadviews, Goodwood Saints of the world. They are the true clubs with true and great traditions. Sure they pay money and sure they may have the odd over priced one, but basically they get by on a decent sort of budget and no animosity between players as the difference of payments between Players 1 and 25 do not differ that much. THAT IS THE KEY - KEEP THE PAYMENTS CLOSE SO NO ANIMOSITY

Is there any wonder of the reported stories of unrest at these type of clubs when some players get $600 and some get a pie and chips per game. The huge differences cause much, much unrest. Have seen it all in my 54 years

What's more, no-one else from Seaton bagged us after the game or later on because I am assuming they have respect for other clubs and will be shown respect back. They understand that one performance is not indicative of a club. Some of the Seaton players have been the friendliest I have dealt with after a game.

Of course you are one of the fastest growing junior clubs in the state as the Northgate area has young parents with young children.

Well, we have 8 kids from Northgate! (22 from Kilburn/Blair Athol, by the way).
1 from Two Wells, 3 from Burton, 3 from Smithfield, 3 from G/Grove, 1 from Osborne,
2 from Greenwith and, from next year, a rapidly increasing number from Para Hills.
The majority come from Northfield, Greenacres, Hampstead Gardens, Ingle Farm, Pooraka and Klemzig.
Most of these kids live much, much closer to other clubs.
By the way, the Juniors don't get a cent from the Community and Sports Club. Sponsors, grants and fund raising keep the Juniors in business and the fees relatively low.

Pearcey - have the greatest respect for your junior programme at Gepps X, was never saying a word about your fantastic system that you have. Was in no way refering to the Junior Programme.

Yes Rotter, have been involved here for over 25 years. Most of it tough going. However unlike many I actually admit where I come from and dont hide behind some club or make out they are from somewhere else and slag someone. I am from Seaton have been most of my life and will continue to be, through thick and thin.
The reason for me just coming onto this forum site was the fact that both the Seaton Football Club and Scott Hodges were copping a bagging from people ill informed to make comment about either the club or Scott. I found it appalling what was written about both subjects.

Ok this thread is locked and will be cleaned up for posts that are off topic.

TA the Moderators

Okay post that were considered personal have been deleted and those considered actually debating the pros and cons of clubs chances in 2008 and or further explain earlier posts have been left.

please keep the debate healthy (whch most of it is) and on track i.e. the relative merits of each club in season 2008.

cheers
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
