I planned and saved for the previous trip for about 3 years, so my boss knew it was coming. I've been working as a casual since I got back, helping to finish off the project and a little on some new research. I'm trying to draw out the casual work until I leave again as there is no chance of jagging a full-time job if I'm honest about my intentions. The joys of no kids and no mortgage - making the most of it while I can.

bit of topic, but,

Anyone seen any of the Miracles doco on channel 2?? (you can still watch two of the episodes on abc i-view)
http://www.abc.net.au/iview/#/docs

The latest episode was about an aussie stuck in the Laos jungle for 12 nights!! crazy that he made it out alive, well worth a watch. The local Lao village people had to carry him all the way out. definite miracle.

Yes, I watched that.

He was very lucky and I agree, it was close to a miracle he got out alive.

Laos

You have to do tubing in Vang Vieng
Towards the end there is a bar called Mr Lao Lao's, he is a 'happy guy' ;)

I also agree that Vientiane is quite missable
It feels more like France than any Asian country

After leaving Phuket I'll be kinda looking to avoid places spoiled by hedonist drug-taking and the police corruption that follows it.

Rough estimates...

How many Aussie dollars would you spend per day (don't include booze)?

Poo. I'm shattered, just found out the VOA to Myanmar has been suspended, making it a bit more difficult to get into the country now :(

Have spent the last 24 hours figuring out how to get a Myanmar visa and getting my shit together for it. Have to get to a post office today and send forms and passport etc to the Myanmar embassy in Canberra, so fingers crossed it comes back with a stamp!

They've stopped the VOA because of the 'election' in November. The plan is to go to Myanmar for a couple of weeks and fly out just before the 'election'.

Was in Togo just before it's 'election', which was a fairly interesting experience. No need to tell you that they were a sham too.

As for other plans. No real plans as yet, just see bits and pieces of Thailand, Cambodia & Laos and make it home before Christmas.
