If Ladhams is so bad why didn't they play Hayes?

Strategic, he still went OK from what I saw, Port need value at the trade table with only 1 decent pick in the draft.

Exactly. Was still playing some pretty good footy but they knew they were going to get rid of him, get the best deal they can. Probably told Hayes he will get game time next year too so he doesn’t leave.

Has only had 2 proper pre seasons (then covid 2020 a year of practice matches) and 1 proper playing season, he wasn't ready.

First one, Ladhams to Sydney

Speaking to a team mate of his they have had a gutful of him. The club has tried everything to help him and sort him out but he just won’t change. Drinks too much, lazy, won’t do the work required. Why they kept him in the Reserves, but it didn’t sink in. Some players just don’t realise how blessed they are and in the blink of an eye their career is over.

Also why they are wanting Finlayson, basically to replace him. What looked like a weird choice at first now makes more sense.

He's not alone there, a couple more names might pop up with him.

I have seen him a couple of times boon and I would be surprised if he didn't get a run this season.

Reckon Port are happy to jettison Ladhams if they can get a second rounder for him.

I'm very hopeful he has it in him to play at the top level but he really hasn't had the type of preparation an AFL ruckman needs. It's an arduous task and not one that many blokes can take on and succeed at without the ground work.

One thing that was a question mark over him at draft time was his tank, he was 2 x U18 All Australian but had question marks over his endurance and clearly he's still working on that.
