Is there any reason, apart from working with cricket to make it happen, that footy from AFL down couldn't extend to the end of October?

If the world is back to normal by June/July then I don't think cricket can be expected to have their normal October to March season compromised by this issue. Many clubs have major issues with accessing ovals in March for trials because of cricket which is not just the oval being used for cricket games but also the pitch areas that need to transition from cricket use to football use.

I just can't see any football competition below the AFL being able to extend their season beyond the week before the October long weekend. If the AFL grand final is put back this will at least give local leagues another week to play with for playing their grand finals.

You answered your own question, cricket.
SANFL could continue on by using Elizabeth, Norwood, Alberton, Footy Park and Richmond. Does Nourlunga have cricket?

Just thinking taking a few weeks of October and giving it back to cricket by not starting 2021 footy season until late April, bit of give and take.

Noarlunga doesn't have cricket. Add in Thebby Oval and even ovals like Kenilworth could be used. SANFL could defintely do it, Im thinking community footy also.

Agreed, strange, particularly with the fact that flights are considered somewhat at a risk.

That was never an SANFL thing, purely VFL. North, Torrens, Central, South, West and Woodville wore white shorts at home and Port, Sturt, Norwood and Glenelg wore dark shorts at home.
I never understood Westies having white shorts at home.
Whilst we are at it we should also revert to red behind posts. Much more sensible than the white behind posts. I am sure Malcolm Blight would agree. Those with long memories would remember him seemingly running into an open goal, mistaking a white behind post for a goal post and scoring a point.

I believe that John Duckworth did the same; ran from the wing all the way to about 10 metres out from what he thought was the goals, and kicked a point.

The World Cup being held in Australia in October this year does complicate the situation for Australia.. can't really expect cricket to not be held during October this year.

@robranisgod, did North ever wear black shorts for a season in the late 70’s/early 80’s?

Glenelg reserves in 2016(reckon )wore black and white shorts,
half the team brought the wrong colour!
I am surprised they did not forfeit the match.

In the unlikely event the season does start early June- wondering if trials would be rescheduled week or two prior to that? Assuming of course that trials scheduled for the coming weekend will be cancelled..

If they played trials before that time I assume they would be behind closed doors. First couple of regular season games could be behind closed doors.

No. They only ever wore black shorts in away games and they looked horrible in them.

I always thought it ludicrous that North had to wear black shorts at Richmond. Both teams were thus wearing red, black and white.

You may be confused by the fact that in 1980 North changed to red shorts which they kept when they changed to the candy stripes in 1983.

I remember when Port Adelaide turned up in white shorts (despite being ordered to play in black shorts) for an SANFL final against the white-shorted CDFC. No action was taken.

Home and away shorts have changed over the years.

On that final Bulldog , did Centrals wear white shorts then ? If so , unlike Port to not play by the rules.

Yes, we sure did. Being young, naive and even more one-eyed than I am today (have always been legitimately one-eyed though as blind in my left eye ;) )
I wrote a letter to KG complaining of Port having cheated by wearing the same coloured shorts - said it was an unfair tactic. Will accept it was an honest mistake today though :)
