Re: Gaelic Football in South Australia
Western Ireland 0.9 def flinders 0.5. Probably a fair result in the end. We were a bit unlucky with a penalty shout in the first couple of minutes into the second half but were also quite lucky that western Ireland didn't take all their chances in the first half.
Special mention to a couple of the minors boys, in particular sam Magor who really stepped up tonight and is going to be a super player for us off the half back line for many years. A good return between the sticks by ranga Morabito keeping a clean sheet and I think the whole defence held up well. Thought alex worked hard through the midfield and James and Tommy tried hard up forward with limited opportunities.
For western Ireland floreani in the backlines did well as well as the little Irish fella Keith I think his name was who was quite dangerous around the goals. Thanks to western Ireland for a tough but fair game and good luck in div 1 finals

TONIGHTS STATE LEAGUE RESULTS
Western Ireland 0.9-9 def Flinders 0.5-5 in a tight, tense, tough and entertaining game.
BEST W.I - Mitch Portlock, Liam in Goals, Keith was always dangerous around the teeth of goals and Jon in defence and Adam Flo around the middle of the park provided valuable contributions.
FLINDERS - Puck Haughey was outstanding, Sam Magor was as previously mentioned a revelation in defence for the Reds, Bausty battled hard again this week, Benji set up a lot of thrusts from defence and Shawny Mac didnt make any mistakes throughout the contest.
Despite the low scoring and some innacurate point shooting the rest of the game was played at a very high standard with a lot of counter attacking from any turn overs. In the second half Flinders just couldnt quite get enough scoreboard pressure to really put the Goats into a panic and their experience saw them get over the line.
Na Fianna 7.12-33 def Mitcham 0.9-9
BEST NA FIANNA - All played well
MITCHAM - Tommy G gave great service through the middle, Young Jackson showed plenty of zip and has a ton of promise, Oz was back to his goose stepping best and Carey was always dangerous despite limited oppurtunities.
The points score was reasonably competitive obviously but its fair to say Na Fianna would have had well over 1,000 more games experience on the park and that facilitated them being able to make the most of a few goal front oppurtunities and take the game away from the young and improving Mitcham who were without the likes of Soxy, Mase and a few other key players.

Re: Gaelic Football in South Australia
Sundays results:
The even more poorly organised than usual Taints defeated Port by around 10 points. The Taints Team Manager (who shall remain nameless) told the team the game was at 6:15pm, only to find out at 4:35pm that we were kicking off at 5pm. Same frantic texting and phone calls managed to get a team on the park however. Best for the Taints was Bubba Zaluski (despite suffering an Alan Donald style brain fade in the dying moments), Damien Fenoughty, Irish Joe and "the other" Irish Danny, and Backy.
Onkas defeated Irish Australians in a close game, 2.8 to 2.2ish. The highlight of the game was Onkas "defender" Butters diving full stretch to smother a MATT DOECKE thunderbolt and copping the O'Neils square in the face. The blow floored the Irishman for 2-3 minutes, and when in the hands of the trainers he wasnt making any sense and couldnt answer simple questions... not the first time Butters has been described like this in these pages.
In the womens games, Onkas and Irish Rovers played out a thrilling draw 3.9 a piece, and Irish Blues beat Flinder O'Neals. The highlight of these game being the aesthetically pleasing nature of the Flinders team
Also whats the go with the hot weather policy. The Taints were on the bar and rocked up at 3:45pm, to find an empty car park and to be told the first game had been moved to 8:30pm. Resulted in a couple of Taints being fairly ropable at the hapless Taints team manager for a wasted hour and a bit (on the plus side this was way we found out about our 5pm game) and us finishing up last night at about 10pm. With us playing in the 2nd game, it also meant that with the first game being moved we had to supply match officials for our own game - which we were lucky as we actually had some supporters for once who could help out but we would usually have no chance.

Who questioned it??? They must be immediately silenced
In all seriousness, the job that has been done with the FON girls has been great. They are steadily improving & they have been getting good numbers out all year.

I concur!! I have heard no one, male or female, complain about the FON girls recruiting process!
Care to list who are the good numbers MBK?

RESULTS FROM THE FINAL ROUND OF 7s
ONKAS 5.24-39 def FLINDERS MINORS 0.7-7
W.I MINORS 1.10-13 def TIGERS 2.2-8
ST.BRENDANS 5.9-24 def SIA 5.3-18
ANGRY LEPS 5.12-27 def DINGOES 1.1-4
NA FIANNA 5.21-36 def THE BEACH 5.4-19
Well done to all 11 teams on a fantastic season. The Gaelic Social 7s was played in the right spirit every week. There were zero RED cards given through the 11 week season. No major injuries occured in any of the games. In 55 games there was only one forfeit and that was due to a team thinking there was no games on Dec 21st. The development of the Minors throughout the season was evident to all. Overall i think its fair to say that we had by far our best 7s season and we most certainly will have a gripping and exciting finals series. Well done to Steve Ridley who put in countless hours and effort in the assistance of runnung the comp. Thanks to all the refs who gave their time and well done to Jon Flo for putting on the whistle last night when a ref was injured and unable to do his game.

Refs have been done for the semis. GF ref will depend on results. Teams may use upto 12 players per final but I can't imagine you would want to use any more than 10. I believe qualification is either 2 or 3 games but I would need to check the rules to be exact.

TONIGHTS RESULTS
ONKAS 9.14-41 DEF MITCHAM 0.5-5
This was a game of 12 on 11 that had 2 highlights IMO and one other point i want to raise.
1. I got to see 5 minor footballers who will be age eligible for this years Australsian Championships play State League for their clubs and they all had touches and showed some real ability.
2. I saved $200 by not drinking at the cricket to ensure i was correctly prepared for my ref duties and whatever else i might need to do whilst at Gaelic park.
I witnessed the worst display of scoreboard dutie since that iconic day when Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder were last retrenched from being the scorers. I,ll make a joke about it but in hindsight it was straight out disrespectful to the rest of St.Marys. The goal umpiring duties were very well performed at both ends by the various people but to have to stop a game 5 times in the first 7 minutes and threaten to report the club showed very poor form. A scoreboard error has already cost my club a game this year and probably the double chance. Mistakes are acceptable but what i saw tonight was pathetic.

Re: Gaelic Football in South Australia
Western Ireland 3.14-23 def Irish Australians 0.10-10
Best Goats ; Adam "Guns" Flo, Kyle "2008 Australasian Corner fwd" Reeves, The Great Kahilly and Jack
I.A ; Who else but Matt Doece, Cathal and Pup.
A really good game of 15 A SIDE GAELIC FOOTBALL. Need i say more
NA FIANNA 3.12-21 DEF ST.BRENDANS 1.12-15
Best NA F ; Stevey, Joff, Billy, Rowan and Shifty Shackles.
St. B ; Jordy, Dunks, Young fella down back....name unknown and Jimmy
This was easily one of the best Gaelic Football contests i have seen at St.Marys all year or season. It was also played under 15 a side stipulations so there was no easy balls to be won and was a true contest played in front of a good crowd that reminded me of the classic contests of old where scoring a point changed the game. No crap where 4 guys are running in against a keeper. I dont want to get stuck on a re-occuring criticism of Mens League but from what i saw today from the 2 games. We must move back to 15 a side. I compare what i saw today to Fridays 9 goal scoreline and i know for sure we must change to 15 a side and people/fans/spectators/crowds will come back and watch good Gaelic contests

Re: Gaelic Football in South Australia
Looking forward to the Gaelic 7's finals tomorrow night. I believe the MBK & his loyal group of followers will be down there to watch some quality gaelic football action!
Hopefully a good crowd gets down there.
I haven't seen much of the 7's, but i'll still predict that it will be very difficult to beat Onka's.

From what i have heard Flinders are taking this pretty seriously and will have a full strength unit ready to throw the works at their now arch nemises Onkas. Should be a good game. Onkas yet to lose this year but they were undefeated last year and fell at the last hurdle so stranger things have happened.
As for your talk of the crowd. Im willing to predict that the crowd for the other semi between Na Fianna and St.brendans will see the pitch completely surrounded and provide some real atmosphere. Im predicting a bigger crowd than ANY State League game this year

I'm not sure anyone could take Gaelic more serious than some of those onkas boys writsy....
We will be trying for the win, Hell it is finals footy, but with not 1 team even getting close to beating Onkas in the regular season, the odds appear to be stacked against us....

I reckon the Dingoes care as they want to do their post season evaluation.

Good to see, reckon there were a few coaches on their last night with the calculator out figuring out possible scenarios.

I spent a bit of time on the site last night doing the numbers and I have to announce, to everyone's disappointment I'm sure, Flinders Women have no mathematical possibility of making finals.
