We often criticise the selectors but in the aftermath of this test they got it pretty right.

Konstas- Everyone will remember his first innings forever; will he make it as a test cricketer....who knows but for one innings he was the only batsmen that was able to get on top of the possibly the worlds greatest ever bowler. His innings was the platform that set up the score of 450 plus.

Marsh- Primary role was as a batter and he failed that.... but a couple of extremely good and very important catches meant he had a minor impact. Bowled 10 overs for the test at 3 an over, probably is the limit of what would be expected with the ball from the batting allrounder Webster. Marsh needs to go undoubtedly but like Head whilst he failed in one role he was able to get involved in others.

I love players playing with zest and free spirit but I felt as though he got a little ahead of himself, I hope he reels it in a little and lets the bat do the talking as he is young enough to break some records, we don't get the luxury of seeing young debutants very often.

Whilst both Head and Marsh didnt score the runs this test (which is why the are in the side) they still influenced the game when they were called upon in the field.

Was a case of all 11 cricketers playing a role this test which got us across the line.

He got away with the ramps in the first innings but then once cut off found scoring a bit more challenging. Copped a great ball from Bumrah in the second....almost a carbon copy of how McSweeney got out, both play out in front of the hands and leave a big gap between bat and pad.

The one thing favorable to Konstas is aside from the ramps he also showed a variety of other good strokes, was strong of his pads, drove a few through the offside that looked delicious. He can score in many ways, which is something i think is maybe lacking in McSweeney.

What do we expect from Konstas next test. Well, we know India will start with a third man and fine leg and eliminate the ramp. We know they will look to target that gap and bowl at the stumps to him.

It doesn't seem like the modern player changes their technique completely so i don't expect Konstas to 'fix that gap' in what 3 days. I expect him to use his feet a lot, reckon we will see him charge a bit, also expect to see him move around the crease. Won't be surprised if he tries what Smith does and bat from off stump and look to whip balls off his pads.

Yeah he carried on a bit in the field but good luck to the kid, his literally just that a kid living out his dream. He wasn't directing his antics towards the batters as such more just getting the crowd going. Was great to watch and as said we don't often see teenagers get a chance in the test side. What is he the youngest Australian test opener ever, how many other teenagers have debut in the last 30 years.....wouldnt be many. Pat Cummins is one.

I read it in a different context then, it was a match of 1's for Trav, 1 run, 1 catch, 1 wicket. I'm not that sure that his bowling prowess captured the wicket of Pant though, was more of a brainfart from Pant.

Marsh does have a great set of mittens on him, he is a confidence player with the bat and an OK bowler, it's amazing what can happen in 12 months though, he is our reigning Allan Border medalist. I can't see him donning the baggy green again but he got the most out of the talent he has, he'll still produce some great white ball moments.

FWIW, I thought Cummins got us over the line, the wicket of Jaiswal was the moment that the pendulum swung, his bowling changes were spot on, I was questioning why he and Starc were coming on with the new ball still 10-11 overs away but backed his judgement, his innings was exceptional despite me not understanding why he needed to shield Gaz from the strike.

I reckon it was dedj that asked someone about how the XI will look in 12 months time, probably 2-3 changes and then a further 2-3 changes for the next 12 months, interesting times ahead, now is the right time to get amongst the runs/wickets.

23 Matches.... 80 wickets @ 25.97.

The bowling average is probably about par given a par batting average these days is 35 compared to the old 40.

In context Jhe Richardson, Fergus O'Neill, Jackson Bird, Scott Boland, Neser are all under 25 and that was just a quick search.
