I guess they will switch to Melbourne for the week
Not sure what media you pay attention to. 360, On the couch, SEN have all lauded West Coast’s start to the year as well as acknowledging Adelaide’s ladder position despite it’s injury toll. Richmond are still the team to beat, Geelong had an off day - not writing them off. Hawthorn don’t play finals IMO & I’ve heard little hype about them.

I listen to 360 and SEN almost every day - and they still think Geelong is the second best team
And the super footy podcast has 4 Richmond supporters on it, maybe that is skewing my perception a bit.

It's not so much 360 and On the Couch, but the Sunday footy shows(take them for what they are worth) barely even mention Interstate sides at all. Spend 10mins on a Essendon loss and about 90 secs on an interstate team win, the other 60% of the time attempting to be funny. (10% they succeed). Richmond have travelled 3 times this season, 2 losses away from Melb and almost rolled by Nth under the roof. Wonder of any mention about travelling issues this week?

The Footy shows are based in Melbourne so it makes sense that they cater for their biggest market. Many of the Victorian viewers don’t give a stuff about interstate sides. It’s just how it is, probably the same reason I don’t read, watch or listen to SA media
With the vast majority of footy panel / show hosts being ex-players they have an affinity to their old club and would prefer to talk about that club than any other. Watch Brownless bar up when Geelong gets mentioned etc etc.
It's part of the reason Kane Cornes has established himself in the wider football media, one, he does his best to be controversial and two, he's from SA giving the panel / shows he's on across all media platforms some outside influence.
FWIW - West Coast getting plenty of attention in Melb, as are the Crows performances given their injuries. Those getting ridiculed include GWS, and Hawthorn today. Port flying under the radar.

super footy podcast this morning - completely dismissive of west coast - said that Richmond would LOVE to play them in a grand final.
then went onto talk about Melbourne, and said they were the one team that could beat Richmond on grand final day
So yes they are already talking about a Richmond GF appearance as a fait accompli, and then saying that the interstate sides will have zero chance if they do make it
I accept your point about 360 and SEN though - but thats skewed because Whateley is the best in the business and robbo is also very good. Its the level down from that that are terrible - Mick Warner, Jay Clark, etc
bennymacca wrote:The crows and west coast are the only finalists from last year that Richmond have played so far.
Talk about a leg up!
Why is it a leg up Benny, thats crap.
Guess you will feel sorry for Richmond when they play finalists from last year 6 times from rd 12-20 this year coming up based on your beliefs.
How isn't it a leg up is the question!
With St Kilda next week that's 2 top 8 sides from the 2017 season in the first 10 rounds and only traveled twice.
If you can't see that as the AFL maximizing gates and hoping for Richmond to go deep into September again then you're not paying attention.
That's a fair assumption Boon, hadn't looked at it from that way. I was more going along the lines that in the end I'm sure we play the same amount of finalists as the Crows do from last year over the course of the season.
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

Again Benny I can’t see the fuss. Of course the Victorian media are going to pump up there own clubs it’s no different to how the SA/WA media treat interstate clubs
bennymacca wrote:I feel in general the Melbourne media should be held to a higher standard given they are the de-facto national media too.
I also think they mostly ARE doing a better job than the SA media - hence why I rarely read the SA media
I get that to a degree but media like SEN have never claimed to be anything other than Vic centric as they are a Victorian station. I still find they give interstate teams air space and credit though.
