Re: Gaelic Football in South Australia
9 teams have have contacted me to tell me they are playing Social 7s again. We need/want 1-3 more and i still havent heard from 3 of last years team. I believe the new ground manager has been appointed. I believe the new competition manager will be appointed at tommorrow nights meeting and all details for the comp will be confirmed.
Probable start dates are 24th or 31st of Oct.
Match times are likely to be 6.45, 7.45 and 8.45 on the dual pitches again.
Outline of the comp will be very similar except without the dreaded bye.
Assuming we have 12 teams...probably 11 week minor round and then the top 6 and bottom 6 break into finals.

Re: Gaelic Football in South Australia
Very excited to be on the cusp of a new Gaelic State League season!
A big thanks to Flinders Oneills who organised a scatch match with St Brendans yesterday, was good to have a bit of a run around and get rid of some of the rust. The 8 players from St Brendans who actually turned up certainly enjoyed it...
A bit surprised to see no outland-ish predictions from teams talking themselves up this year? Any big recruiting coups? Any players on the move via free agency?

Re: Gaelic Football in South Australia
I think Onka's will still be the team to beat, looks like a number that went away on the state trip will join that group.
Fairly settled at Na Fianna with a bit of turn over & some replacements coming in.
From what I got vaguely at the Australasian ball is that WI will be largely unchanged.
Saints - CT, fill us in with your knowledge!!!
FON have picked up a few Irish players according to my connections. Even Gerry Roe was impressed with there recruiting drive.
Pretty quiet from Port, but I'd expect there group to stay pretty similar & keep improving.
Irish should pick up the majority of Mitcham lads, hopefully this turns the club for the better.

Heard a rumour today that the experienced players from Mitcham have actually gone to Western Ireland, instead of going back to Irish Australians... a little disapointing if true? For the strength of the comp, would have certainly been beneficial for them to return to Irish.
Very little going on down at St Brendans MBK, you would think with us having nothing to do with the State trip this year we would have been allover preperation for the 2012/2013 campaign, but the complete opposite has occured and we have down very little. However yesterdays scratchy marks the first ever preseason activity we have ever been involved in so thats something... also renewed our sponsorship with the Warradale Hotel and i can tell you that is looking AMAZING since its rennos, so there is a win for the Taints!
How were the State Championships MBK? Very disapointed i couldnt get involved this year.

Re: Gaelic Football in South Australia
The Na Fianna GFC has picked up sponsorship from the Whitmore hotel again. The place might not be fancily renovated, but the management has given the club some wall space to put together a Na Fianna ‘clubhouse’ space for various photos, jerseys, memorabilia, etc. Should give the place a good look!
So get around there if you are in town!
State trip was quite enjoyable. Obviously a bit disappointed that we couldn’t take an extra step, but WA were a classy unit on their home turf. We definitely got to see some positives signs for the teams future & have a bit to build upon for an assault on next year’s title.
The minors did quite well until they ran out of puff on the last day against a typically classy Victorian minors team. Some of the interaction between the Women’s & Minors teams was very entertaining. The big cult hero Frostie was a highlight.
Unfortunately the men’s side didn’t share the same SA spirit as these two teams…
The men struggled after a promising first 40 minutes against WA in the opening game. After that game the group were almost defeated for the week & tapered off for the rest of the week. Also disappointing the lack of discipline shown before the most important game of the week against Qld on the Thursday. The defense was the highlight of the team, but struggled under weight of numbers.
The trip certainly lacked CT's presence!!!

Not sure how the Goats are going to be able to fit them all in due to the fact they have signed on a large bunch of the Mitcham lads
Very quiet one at the Australasian ball this year. I left it by about 10pm

Re: Gaelic Football in South Australia
No big recruits for us this year. We have concentrated on people we think will be consistent and reliable and play most weeks. If we want to compete with the likes of onkas and na fianna we need to take a leaf out of their book and attempt to establish a good settled team that doesn't disappear after Xmas
In regard to Irish players, we have picked up a few. Some good and some not so good.
Hopefully the women's side will be much more competitive this year. Picked up a few new players and 2 new coaches. They had a draw with an under strength onkas on Sunday which was a fantastic effort. Well done girls

Re: Gaelic Football in South Australia
Must say i like the concept of the new bar/officials system for season 2012/2013. Sure its gonna be a bit of hard work for clubs when its their turn, but loving the idea of not having to ask/beg/plead/threaten players to do match officals after games - then end up having to do it myself with the usuals when that fails!
Well done to the Finders Girls team - easily my favourite team in the comp!
(that includes St Brendans)

What's the new system?
And agreed Re: Flinders Girls team haha.
The season has rolled around pretty quickly, and I'm looking forward to it after missing a few games last season. I havn't been able to get out to training yet, so am fairly unsure of how we'll line up this week, but have heard a few U18's have been recruited from the footy club, which is great - hopefully they don't take too long to pick up the rules haha.
One of our state reps will be missing Rd 1, but will be wild a raring to go for the rest of the season.
Good luck to all this week.

Re: Gaelic Football in South Australia
Well Lutz, I have been out to Port's training and the young guns are picking up a lot quicker than expected. The skills and rules they will pick up along the way, but they are fit and will be able to run out game out more comfortably than us old blokes!!
We are aiming just to get once place better than we did last year. But we aim to knock off one top side at least once this year!!
Looking forward to it!!
