Gaelic Football in South Australia

I realise that it is still more than a week away, but any idea when a program or roster for the first week will be up for Gaelic 7's? Who are the new teams?

9 of last years 11 teams have confirmed their return with the only two missing are Grand Finalists St. Brendans and still waiting on hearing from the Tigers who were the team in pink. Not sure of the details regarding the new team. So its very much looking like 10-12 teams.

The new competition manager has been strongly advised not to shut the bar on the Steve Irwin Allstars or he is well aware he will feel the full wraith of Bindy. The bar manager will have the fridge fully stocked for the "Crikeys"

COULD ALL TEAMS PLEASE FORWARD THEIR NOMINATION FORMS TO THE GFHA OF SA SECRETARY RACHEL BRICK. tHE SOONER THIS IS DONE THE SOONER THE DRAW CAN BE FINALISED.

And this is the most important thing, we've actually got a fresh Bindy or two that might come out for a few games...but keep your eyes on the ball Wristy. I'd also implore all of the other teams and refs to get on board prior to matches and help level the playing field.

Steve's nom form sent in too, but you'd already know that.

I have a few first round draws made up but without really knowing how many teams i can not put it up. What i may do is put R! up with the teams which have nominated and if extras nominate i can add them then finish the draw. my main goal is to have at least the first three rounds up this weekend.

Now now no need to be upset that we beat u when it counted....not sure how we bent the rules but I suggest maybe concentrate less on trying to punch peoples lights out and more on the footy. Oh yeah and maybe learn the rules....

After round 1 it seems like the Mercenaries are going to be the team to beat once again. They have recruited strongly from wherever they could (including other clubs again).
I was impressed with Sam Janetski’s agility when the Irish lads actually allowed an Aussie bloke into the forward line.
Certainly a little bit of rust was shown by us, hopefully we can continue to improve. The best news was that the Milky Bar Kid managed to get thru the game!

The new umpire system… Um, from what I saw on Sunday, it certainly had a number of kinks to be ironed out. Especially when the people who voiced up the most against the old system were in charge… I was impressed with the side line officials ability to do the line from pretty much under the verandah, the goal line officials showed similar ability officiate from the fence (maybe too scared to go near the new goals in the likely occurance that they break).

I hope someone finds the mower prior to this week’s game & that some lines magically appear on the ground as the cone on the sideline system didn’t quite cut it.

Looking forward to round 2.

Spot on Milko ....Probably the only other two things that i think should be mentioned are ;
Well done to Millsy on reffing the GF rematch. A very tough game no doubt and he gave a good account of himself.
Whilst legally we dont have to provide a trainer the lack of trainer may well become an issue. It was also very apparent for whatever reason when i asked for the assistance of a trained medical officer his reluctance to become involved (albeit he was there to play footy and not drive around in his siren wheeling vehicle) Id suggest that Tony Conlon who has showed great interest in the medical side be trained, fully trained to do that role. Perhaps even send him on a 6 month course to facilitate his training for this role.
But seriously i can see this becoming an issue during the season

Was told there is a trainer wristy, but that they weren't available this week...

Re: the lines I think it was more a case of the new groundsman not knowing what lines to mark....hopefully it's all fixed for week 2.

Fridays men's game: St Brendan's look the goods, and I think Irish will be better for the run, will learn from watching the way Brendan's go about it, as their running game looked very hard to stop.

WI 3.10-19 def Port 1.4-7 with Mitch Portlock the Star. Good game though.

Was probably a closer contest than the score suggests. WI started slowly, and Port's defence was great for most of the match. Port started and finished pretty well I thought, but lost concentration throughout the middle of the match.
Our movement forward was good I thought, but finishing left a bit to be desired. Possibly need to take more overs, rather than going for so many unders. But was probably also partly due to so many debutants. We had at least 6 first gamers who all did a lot better than I had expected, including the keeper.
WI should be pretty strong this season (but when aren't they), as they've acquired the services of at least 4 of Mitcham's experienced players.

Happy with the effort in Rd1. Hopefully can build and improve each week.
