You activate the EPIRB when things go to shit, the ping to the satellite is accurate within 3m of your location, they clearly didn't have one.
Not compulsory to have one though is it? Personal choice to carry it I guess?

Out there, yes, legal requirement.

All vessels regardless of length, that are in unprotected waters more than three nautical miles from shore, except in Lakes Alexandrina and Albert, or more than five nautical miles from shore in Gulf of St Vincent or Spencer Gulf must carry:

one EPIRB (emergency distress beacon)
one V distress sheet.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

Something not right here.

AMSA are dispatching an aircraft from Canberra to pinpoint the location. Surely , this has been done and have they not got access to aircraft in Adelaide such as the ones that have been flying for the last 5 days?

Edit: Aircraft was dispatched last night not this morning.

Experience may have been an issue by the sounds of it.

Bloke 2 had zero experience and was urged by friends and family to not go.

I wouldn't have done that trip on that boat.

Tony Higgins, one of the two SA fishermen rescued after five days lost at sea, has been fined $1000 by police for having "insufficent safety equipment and no operators licence" for his boat.

Well that will help with the multi million dollar bill us taxpayers have for the search and rescue mission.

Rumour has it they tried to sell/give the boat to the maritime museum in Port Lincoln but they declined!

Urgh, despite having contractions 3 mins apart yesterday and the boy well and truly being cooked she's going back home today, talk of a c section.
I bet the kid decides to come next Wednesday, Thursdayor or Friday when the missus and I are supposed to be in the country celebraring my 50th.

There is one positive though, its nice to wake up on a Saturday without a hangover, already done a few chores which is unheard of for me prior to the footy!

The unpredictability of finals footy. Hahndorf 43 wins straight lost to Lobethal in the 2nd semi today after beating them by 105 points earlier in the season.

100 year old Captain Tom Moore asked for a can of Coke, a Dairy Milk bar and 'six blondes' in his dressing room when he appeared on TV with Piers Morgan.

'He told me the number of blondes was "variable". He's a real ladies' man. He said to me, "Let me put it like this; I'm not allergic to girls".

Bit of fight in the old dog yet! Love it.
