Smith does seem to be a tad befuddled I guess.
It’s just rubbish.
Not sure how they think they will get a wicket

Flat deck against a mediocre attack who have basically given up and are just waiting for the series to end.
Was a huge opportunity to grind them into the dirt especially when you pick 8 batters.
How about now, do you think being 7/518 with a lead of 134 going at 4.17 and batting for 124 overs and batting all day is not grinding them into the dirt? Australia don't have to be in any rush while they build a lead and take time out of the game aswell.

The last partnership definitely tilted things back better but just felt a few of our batsman did bat poorly today and I honestly thought we could have finished only 4 or 5 down against this attack.
If we can get 200-250 in front we may not need to bat again

I get what Jim is saying, some of the shots to get out were poor.

Great position to be in but like Jim it could have been better

This is the first time that Root and Smith have scored a hundred in the same test match.

Trav needs to play a Test in Darwin so he scores a ton in all 8 capital cities

Only one to do it in 7 capital cities

Bangas in August.

I wonder if Smith, Green or Webster would’ve had the same effect if Neser didn’t go in as a nightwatchman? I didn’t see it as a negative tactic and if Starc gets a hit we could hit a record amount of 50 run partnerships in the one innings, it is currently 7 as I’m sure you’d be all over.
What it did do is install a bit of confidence in Green and it allowed Webster to get a decent innings in him with less pressure, I’m sure we all had faith in him and this match we focussed on getting runs, something we have not been able to do consistently.
I think if we can bat til halfway through the middle session we’ll have more than enough runs to be able to bowl them out in 4.5 sessions, in hindsight a spinner would’ve been handy on day 5 but we don’t have any close to Lyon’s capabilities and if we batted first it would be a redundant comparison.

Do you work for Cricinfo? #statsmanLM

Day Three Stats-
7 Number of fifty-plus partnerships for Australia at SCG, the most in an innings in the Ashes. These are also the second-most for any Test-match innings, behind the eight by India in their first innings against England at The Oval in 2007. https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/stat ... ad-1518258

I know what you're getting at, he's taken more wickets than Boland at a better Strike Rate.

My answer is no, he’s had to bowl to better batters and on foreign soil, I thought he was crap initially but he’s grown on me with his ticker. I do see lower back stress fractures coming his way with his action though.
