Shocking day for the under 12 carnival at Hackham today but well done to the club for putting it all on.

Well done to Flaggies for taking it out to back up the Under 10 win last week, beat Brighton Yellow in the semi and Cove in the GF (who beat the other Cove team in the semi).

Any reason that out of 20 teams playing in the carnival only 4 got through to the semi finals??
I wasnt there but understand 8 teams got through in the u/10's the week before?
Know there was only 3 available ovals at hackam , which may of been the reason why, but there were approx 400 kids playing on the day. May of needed a larger venue.

Having said that geez it was good to get home and in front of the fire.......

Because Semi Finals involve two games (Ie semi = half the final), winners of the semis play in the final. More than 2 semis = more than 2 teams playing in the final.

I suggest that only have 2 ovals meant they don't have quarter finals, I think that there were a couple of teams that won all 3 games but didn't make it cause of low %.

A few parents I was with were hoping for a lightening storm so they would call it off

Step son who is 9 years old plays soccer at the local FFSA club. They play Sunday mornings and the season finished last weekend. Got a message during the week to say presentation day is on Sunday (tomorrow) and trials for next season are Saturday (today) and next weekend. If selected for the under 10 team we are required to pay the registration fees for next season IN FULL next week!!! Only $485 but they reserve the right to increase these fees at any stage before next season which will then become payable immediately. What a joke. For this fee he gets a playing shirt and a year book. A first year player has to pay an extra $330 dollars for a full playing kit, tracksuit and bag. Matches are conducted on a similar basis to the SFL minis comp ie no ladder or official scores. A parent acts as referee and quite often 2 poles in the ground at either end are used as goals. I have yet to see any accredited medical staff present at games as the most I have seen happen after injury is parents running on to ground and a can of ice spray being applied.

Having been involved in football all my life I cannot understand how they can justify charging this amount and the fact fees are due so far out from the start of the season. Where is all this money going?

So true mate, I think a lot of people don't realise how lucky we are to have an affordable sport with reasonable fees. Basketball fees are about $500, where the hell does this money go? Are the affiliation fees for these comps ridiculous or is it the stadium fees or what? Can't understand this, but appreciate the fact my boys are involved in a great sport, which is affordable and strong.

Congratulations to the Happy Valley under 14 side. These boys have developed strongly as a group over the course of the year and have become the old adage of a champion team as opposed to a team of champions. Brilliantly coached, well managed and just truly fantastic, humble and teachable kids. A well deserved premiership after a year of learning and developing. A great team performance.

Well done to Brighton on thir 16's win, simply too good for our Viking boys from the start and Flaggies 18's also way too good for Cove. The future of the league is in good hands with some great quality footballers coming through. Junior footy is alive and well, thank god.

Looking forward to the Subbies season kicking off this week, good luck to all involved. Due to a draw stuff up Ill be at Porties for the u8's then over to Shoes for the 10's/12's. Anyone else on here involved in Subbies this season?

Yeah Dutchy, should be another good year. Looking at the U/12's groups, the white group has 11 teams entered with dual sides from valley, wineys and bombers so effectively 8 clubs, the maroon group has 14 teams with no double sides, perhaps this could've been been looked at a little closer, nothing major just an observation.

There was an explanation about this but cannot remember why. Also looks like there will be some Friday night games this year.
